Despite working all day at the ABC and half the night at another shitty job, its been a good day. Over the past three weeks I've been on a bit of a spending spree and, coincidentally, everything arrived today.
First up is seamonkey's hardly used Alesis Micron which I can't crank up until the morning [1am here]. From what I've heard on the headphones though, I'm very happy. I can't believe how tiny and light it is. Amazing!
Then there's the Edirol PCR-1 I got from ebay. Its less than 3 months old and absolutely pristine, yet almost 1/3 of the new price here. Awesome!
But the biggest and super-coolest is my brand, spankin' Dell 20" Widescreen TFT. Abso-f**king-lutely in-f**king-credible.
Yes, all in all its been a pretty good day, even if the vindaloo I had for lunch has gone straight through me [and it has].

I'm looking for a new controller. Let me know how the PCR-1 works out for you. It looks interesting but that strange pitch wheel kind of spooks me. The modulation controller also looks to be an on/off kind of affair.
What is it with Roland/Edirol and there aversion to traditional mod/pitch wheels anyway?

My ex-roommate just got an M-Audio O2 and it has those goofy switch things for modulation and pitch bend -- despite the fact that it has full-height knobs that stick up higher than a small wheel would have anyway. I really didn't like the feel of that keyboard overall.JohnVulich wrote:What is it with Roland/Edirol and there aversion to traditional mod/pitch wheels anyway?

i don't think it's about how high up it sticks, i'm sure it's because of the amount of space needed BELOW the surface of the keyboard for the mod/pb mechanisms that the alternative approaches are used.
Kick, punch, it's all in the mind.

The PCR-1 is only about 2cm thick at the thickest part [about half that where the pitch-wheel thingy is] so I can't see where you would put the rest of the wheel. It seems to work alright, if you're into that kind of thing, but from the 2 minutes I've been able to spend with it since I got it it appears to step through rather than give continuous pitch-bend.
