Cypher...just one other thing (ha-ha)...I've found that increasing my technical knowledge (i.e. knowledge of the synths, effects, sequencers and production stuff I work with) exponentially increases my ability to put the scary sounds in my head down in silicon. In other words, apropos to your situation, I've used periods of creative dryness to go deeper in my "technical" knowledge - this has often led to explosive creative spurts because stuff that I didn't know how to do or didn't know I could do suddenly becomes manifestly clear to me and bingo...I'm back in the groove big time.

It worked for Petrarch.
I need me one of those.

.. I'm kidding.

.. but seriously, I do.

that makes sense (apart from the word apropos :hihi:). I think I'll sit down and have a read of the 'How To Make A Noise' book tonite instead of staring blankly at my sequencer. cheers.

This happens quite often to creative people, we tend to have the valve wide open and then there is barely a trickle. I am a visual artist as well as a musician and I have hardly done any artwork going on five years now, I use to say to myself that I wasn't being creative because I did not have time, which is partly true, I had to realise that it will come when it is ready. I never said I would quit tho, it is a part of who I am, I have to let go of that part of me that fights the urge.

Since I have been unemployed I am finding ideas flowing more freely now and have even set up my studio again to work on two projects that I have started.

My advice to you would be to not worry too much it will come back. Learning an instrument or two is also a good idea. It can take some time to get the chops but it is well worth it. 8)

no that wasn't some kind of subconscious dig. either at you or your music.
it was simply this. if u feel like quitting, quit. Whats the problem? If u get creative again. Go for it again.
Don't agonise over it.

how about a collaboration?

I vote for doing whatever feels right. All the time. If you feel like coming back to it someday, then do it. For now, piss off if you must. ;)

oh okay, then I apologise. Yeah I see what you're saying, but as I mentioned earlier in the thread, I love and hate my hobby (and it is only that, I'm under no illusions) in equal measures. I see what you're saying, but really what I meant was if I quit, I mean selling my kit etc., so a bit more permanent than taking a break. As for a collab, well I'm kinda stuck on anything at the mo but I'll bear it in mind :)
