ive been trying to find a way to use the GarageBand EXS instruments in other non-apple sampler apps - particularly in a windows sampler... EXS manager is the first app I've seen that mentions Garageband EXS support (the EXS format in GarageBand seems slightly different than previous EXS formatted files, like a newer revision or some such).

last i attempted a couple months ago, all of the samplers that i've used which claimed EXS support generally crash or won't recognize the EXS files from GarageBand (anybody know if this is still the case?).

unfortunately EXS manager doesn't convert between sampler formats.

does anyone know if there is one of two things:
1. a pc sampler that can read GarageBand EXS files
2. a program to successfully convert a GarageBand EXS file to another more-widely used sampler format

i'm avoiding soundfont conversion because i like having the actual sample files external to the sampler data file.

any help would be greatly appreciated...

If you have access to a Mac OS X machine, you can convert GB EXS -> Normal EXS, and then use Translator or CDXtract or whatever to convert Normal EXS -> Your Sampler.

Here's a tool for the first step (GB EXS -> Normal EXS)

BTW the stock Fretless E-Bass instrument in GB is awesome, but pretty much everything else sucks...
