Looks like you can do per-slice automation, which is pretty cool. Live doesn't understand sample slices at all in V4.

P5 v.2 really has a clean and clear interface and seems to have gone one step up from Live 4 by combining the groove matrix (similar to Live 4's session view) with the arranger but all in one view, even the piano roll slots in nicely at the bottom of the screen!. No doubt you will be able to drag the edges of each view to resize like P5 1.5

its a dirty business, obviously they've aligned themselves with Reason and are trying to take food out of the mouths of abletons babies. ableton better come back with some upsidedown fruitcake feature shit for sure in Live 5, i'm talkin like you launch Live 5 and some little men hop out the computer and write a track for your ass.

I have tried both,Reason and Project5. IMHO, Reason is far better than P5 as far as Stability and CPU handlings are concerned. Reason's synths and samplers are better than P5's in all respect. Only GUI is plus plus with P5 if that matters to you more than anything else.
As far as closed and open system apps are compared, FLSudio is also an open system but more stable and versatile than Project5.

I don't see how Reason 3 can be better than Project 5 vers 2 in the synth department. Even if the included synths aren't to everyones taste there is DXi/VSTi support. How can Reason match that?

The claim that P5 has problems with stability isn't something I've heard about. I use Sonar 4 and it's virtually rock solid. I think the P5 audio engine is based on Sonar's audio engine. Hasn't the new P5v2 audio engine been improved with gapless audio? Cakewalk products are designed for Wintel products.

Having said that, no host can guarentee complete VST/VSTi compatibility. But then that's easily rectified with an update. Most VSTi devs are willing to test their synths with Cakewalk products.

Reason is a great product but I can't see how P5v2 is in any way inferior to Reason.

Judgement should be reserved until final release, however you have to test drive this sucker before you call it a 'place your host here - Killer'.

The original P5 didn't jive on lots of people's systems with unexplainable stuff goin on. And Cakewalk like to keep a big ole 'restart audio engine' button there for a reason...because you'll need it!

As long as all your plugs get along with Live4, I think it's stable as hell. Although I will admit that with P5's piano roll, the addition of audio and freeze, P5 V2 has all the right features and does beat Live to the punch. I just think that Live's engine will be superior as I remember P5's engine was somewhat glitchy (prone to pos & clicks) and occational crashes for me. I use ASIO drivers at low latencies. WDM was much more stable for P5 but I hate WDM for my needs, just the mechanical feel of it. You can tell ASIO was created for music.

Just my two...

would you mind elaborating? I dont understand what you mean by the "mechanical feel" of WDM drivers.

I use ASIO drivers in P5 with my MOTU 2408MK3 with no problems at all running at 5ms and have no Problems on my laptop with my Echo Indigo running Asio at 5ms. I guess it just depends on how the users machine is setup.

WDM vs ASIO stability always depends on the driver support for the hardware audio interface. BSOD points to flakey drivers almost 100% of the time in post-Win2K systems!
