PDC is done. I assume it works but have no use for it.

orion doesn't really have much of a 'buzz' around it anymore. that's just a kvr thing though so doesn't mean anything in the real world, but its interesting to wonder - just how necessary is hype, frequent updates, etc in keeping an app alive ?

I still get random crashes doing stuff in the piano roll, but I also still use Orion all the time. Just save alot more than I used to..

Here's a question: I noticed when I loaded 5.8 (combined) from scratch, it put a vst plugins folder... only! The old combined updates from the CD, had a vst instruments AND a vst plugins folder... Hmmm... Was that a consolidation move?? ...and it needs a few things, still...
1. Playlist, full screen please!
2. Collapse mixer strips, or hide...
3. Automation tied to playlist (global)
4. Scrolling drum sampler window (for unfolding samples)

Its just that Rich improved teh plugin scanning which removed the need to have instruments and effects in separate folders.

If it does, I'd like to why hosts like eXT/FL/Live don't have that same basic functionality..Jaeson Merrill wrote:doesnt the vst standard already tell the host if its an effect or instrument?>>

You can name the tracks..Just right click on the track tab all the way to the left & a rename option's there, which is also mirrored at the bottome of each mixer strip..

FL does. Use 'Scan and verify' in the refresh menu.Sickle wrote:If it does, I'd like to why hosts like eXT/FL/Live don't have that same basic functionality..Jaeson Merrill wrote:doesnt the vst standard already tell the host if its an effect or instrument?>>

maybe because e.g. synths like e.g. Pentagon and Kubik can also be used as fx-plugins (i.e. have an audio-input)?Sickle wrote:If it does, I'd like to why hosts like eXT/FL/Live don't have that same basic functionality..Jaeson Merrill wrote:doesnt the vst standard already tell the host if its an effect or instrument?>>

Nope. To my knowledge, at least with Pentagon, the audio in version is a seperate .dll file called PentagonFX. That applies to all of NI's stuff as well, but I don't have Kubik..jens wrote:maybe because e.g. synths like e.g.
