FEEL FREE TO DISAGREE
and the sends aren't that brilliant either, it works but it could have been more user friendly

For *you* maybe. Many people find it very good. Who's right? Both! I think you put some people's backs up as you stated it as a fact rather than opinion, at least that's how it can read. Anyhoo, nowt wrong with being enthusiastic about something.spaceman wrote:I don't need several hours (owning Tracktion 1) to find out that the midi editing is still bad
I wouldn't go that far myself, but I don't like the default colour scheme. Too much colour *for me*, but at least it's editable!spaceman wrote:and the UI -although very practical (did I ever say it wasn't practical?) it still looks toyish.

If you want to see how MIDI editing should be done, take a look at Music Studio Independence. Unfortunately I don't see any other sequencer programmers even bothering to find out what actually constitutes a good MIDI editor. (i.e. what the majority of people find the easiest to use). MSI had it right, right from the beginning, it looks like so many other sequencers have MIDI editors that were just thrown together (like Tracktion's).
Tracktion's interface is not brilliant, no more usable than any other program, what other programs are people having difficulty using because of 'clutter'? Do Mackie not realise that everybody has a finite amount of screen space, and that it would take a screen about 3 feet wide to display all the data about a song at one time? Therefore by definition you have to expand and contract, open and close, display or not display, loads of different parts of the Tracktion screen. I got the free download of version 1 when Mackie were kind enough to offer it (a very good and decent thing for them to do), and I used it once and then ignored it ever since. Especially after looking at the MIDI editor. The whole program is in no way intuitive. (Remember, we're all used to using WINDOWS, not thousands of DOS programs that all have their own user interface. Why re-invent the wheel? It was already working fine in loads of programs!)
Could somebody name some programs that have 'cluttered' interfaces if they think Tracktion is any improvement?

if you post an opinion dressed up as a fact, and then are incapable of backing it up with any actual arguments, you will have to accept that IN MY OPINION YOU ARE AN IGNORANT WANKER.spaceman wrote: IT'S BAD FOR ME ... m'okey

Knowing the key commands for the midi editor is what makes the difference. There's a new key (I forget what it is right now) for drawing and dragging note length simultaneously - an essential feature I think. Multiple note length dragging is there. It has all the stuff I need, though I always wanted the option of a separate window for dual monitor setups. I agree that the GUI does need a bit of a style overhaul. It is extremely well organised for workflow though, and now there's the option of using other colour schemes / designing your own.
It's true that zooming is rather sluggish compared to Cubase. I do find that a bit irritating sometimes.

Traction and cubase are the best ones. Orion is good for step sequencing, though I think psycle is better. And, Cakewalk is a bit fiddly. Fruity, sorry, just does not do it for me.
