Thanks Paul and MidiMan! I appreciate your help.
If it is multi velocity then set the crossover points
It is always at this point I get lost. ] How do I decide which crossover points to choose and which samples for which velocity?

Looking at other Kits is the best help.

Load your multisamples ... Set them up rough...Play with a controller keyboard (Thats best ... a keyboard to feel the velocity) and you can feel / hear the best points...
It depends too on how many samples you have in your set.

This applies to any Velocity Multi sampled set for any sampler including RMIV or DK+ or any of them.

Also the trick comes when programming them ... Thats when you just set the velocity in your editor or piano at whatever sounds best..
It takes hand editing in your final midi, to get it sounding / working, best in your track.
It takes work ,,, but is worth it for good sounding realistic drum tracks... its not so much the setting up the map in the drum sampler ... but also knowing how to program the hits in your editor for best velocity use.
Again ..Using your Ear and just changing velocity is how it is done.

Thanks Paul,

So it is by trial and error - that makes me feel less like an idiot. This is the kind of stuff that takes loads of time and I only have an hour or two most evenings for my studio music. What you are describing makes perfect sense but is outside of my music time budget. I will give it a shot within the next few week. I just allocated a few hours to the basics of programming Symptohm this weekend and actually got somewhere - the first two pages of the tutorial on sample mainipulation. Tonight I hope to have dedicate breaking into WusikStation.

Oh yeah I still have listen to the March entrues and vote this week - 87 entries!

Like the rest of us ...
You are trying to absorb too much information in the allowed timeframe .. Take it easy and a step at a time.

I think i know it all :-) ...But really ... I learn something new everyday myself. Thats the best thing about Digital audio.
:-)

BTW Giro ..Sorry to hijack your thread with helping Beardedone

Too true Paul. Good advice that I have also give at times. Right now I am very impatient to ratchet up my skills but find I am hitting the wall more often than making music. Btw WusikStation indeed has sounding interesting sounds in the full soundset (demo was almost entirely outside my taste) - I really need a tutorial since the demo is for the synth savvy.
