do you people have the same feeling that nothing new in the vsti world is in a position to surprise you? î'm saturated, even blasé... i don't buy anything new, i don't need anything new... instead i should learn how to use in full potential the dozens of purchased products i have, but i don't, because it's too much of a work for my lazy butt?

sharing my feelings... :)

yeah I'm overloaded. I may archive or sell some bits and get to grips with just a few items for a change.

I think we're still in for a surprise or two.

Just think of the Melohman concept, a recent innovation, had me thinking "why didn't anyone think of this before?"

Or that Elevayta SpaceBoy!

yes and no. There's still some stuff on it's way that will be really cool I'm sure. With things like the Minimonsta comming out now we're taking a jump in sound quality as well - comparing it with some of the stuff that came out a couple years ago there's definately been an improvement from some of the devs. I think now we're at a point where things will start to really improve too, not just innovate. CPU's are getting faster and able to handle new techniques, etc

Now it's starting to take something fresh to impress us, and thats a good thing because devs will really work to create high quality things that are easy to use, sound great, have cool new ways of making things easier, etc

I agree with smart. I'm happy with what I have, though things will become more sophisticated. I'm sure that in 3 years time the current sequencers will look very crude in terms of design and aesthetics. Massive sample libraries will be more viable, and I look forward to that.
Every day takes figuring out all over again how to f#ckin’ live.

And I'm sure that there will be development of automated mixing techniques along the lines of Space Boy.

I feel like there is nothing that could come out right now that I really *need* in the vsti world, and have since turned my attention to getting the hardware I need to record properly. besides that all new software that has come out lately is trying to force me to upgrade my athlon 2400 :x :bang:  :bang: :dog:

I refuse to upgrade until an athlon 64 3500 costs 129...

I always enjoy seeing new takes and attempts at stuff, even if its just another 3 osc subtractive synth or RMS compressor.

But I also know that I need to really focus and learn how to get absolutely everything I can from the software and hardware I have. Its too easy to get caught up in the preset trap, where rather than trying to program a soudn from scratch and get exactly what I want, I will just switch apps and browse presets until im close...

These are exactly my own thoughts, too.

That´s good - now we have more free money ... maybe for the ... whorehouse? :hihi:

I think there's always room for new/more. I'm always open to new tools that will give me ways of doing different things in cool ways. Look at Ronin or Filterscape, thoruoghly flexible and creative approaches to old wellworn ideas. Or keep an eye out on the next update for Rephrase, a tool that lets you take sampled sound, then bend and stretch it to create unique instrumental sounds. Turn Bing Crosby into an erhu. I suppose it all depends on your musical needs, but if building instrumental voices from scratch has become intrinsically linked to your writing process as it has mine, not "sound design" so much as compositional orchestration, new ways of doing things are always appreciated.

I have a ton of plugins, mostly free, and I've used almost every one at least once in a track. Think of each one as an accessible idea, you open it up and it gives you something to work with for a moment. A plugin really isn't like a guitar, as it really isn't there in the same way once you are not using it. Store it away and it is for all intents only a memory.

I'm maybe a bit synthed out at the moment. Once you know how to program a synth, you rarely need more than a small few. And so many of them are just the same old approach just given a facelift.

And surely I have no need for another EQ or compressor, but apparently someone always does. I agree the market is saturated, but that's their problem, not mine.

A fundamental to remember: you don't have to buy everything that comes out. Some people round here do, but look at the flip-flop meltdowns some have had to endure because of it. ;)

I must say, i even don't update my softwares anymore...

sounds like i'm losing it... :?

Man...I thought I was all set once I got my UAD-1 card. Told myself from now on I'd only buy new UA plugins as they're released and the mandatory Voxengo purchases as soon as they come out.

Then Minimonsta and Hydratone arrived. :D

It's all good...and keeps getting better. Think about it: hardware operates with a bandwidth of 400+. So even at 96 or 192, plugs and pc's have a lot of growth left!

Sound's like you've lost your Mojo.
