Don't know about the TV series but there's definately a 'Master Bates' in the Pugwash books.

Nope. Master Mate.

I still maintain that there is a Master Bates in the Pugwash books - My kids have copy of one of them and it's there in black and white... :!:

On the other hand, it's still great because you'd NEVER see that sort of thing today - all the bigwigs would be too afraid of the tape being leaked and it affecting the 'brand image'.

Really, i don't know the books. i think it was Cabin Boy Tom in the series - maybe the books were a bit naughtier. i think there was a pirate called One Eyed Willy though in the TV series

Mr A
I'm sure it was Roger the cabin boy and seaman Staines.

Well I could look it up if someone would be prepared to host it - but it's a lot of bandwidth.

Jamie and his Magic Torch was good, but the best theme music of the lot was from Sir Prancelot (Alan Parker on guitar?)
RIP Black Tom and Beckett. They weren't just cats, they were MY cats, the best cats ever.
