Disclaimer up front.... This is the Mac version. I started out loading it up and immediately decided the new skin was pretty err, wacky... I actually looked at a bunch of the new ones, and was going to go back to the original when I started doing my own version... And after spending 3 hours on my own, I was thinking... now this is the way to do an interface, Hmmm... Anyway, to the testing:
1. The cursor still hangs on playback (like in the old version) a little annoying!
2. The dropped 1st notes still seem to be an issue, although you can fix this by manually moving the (first) note a little... then it will play! Hmmm... grrr!
3. Midi editor is still a pain, especially if you set the zoom to anything other than the largest size... There is a tendency for the pencil to change back and forth to the selection if the note is too small (view)... making it hard to select anything... very trying at times!
4. Still no preview of samples before importing... although if you drag them in from the finder, you can preview them there...
So... I really like some of the stuff T does, like stretching audio quickly, and track routing... I like the interface, (mine anyway) and I'd love to use it, if for no other reason, because Logic is such a pain... But some of this stuff should be fixed! and I thought it would be... by May?? Do these things still happen on the PC version... just curious.
So can we discuss this people without all the BS and kittens? Probably not, but what the heck...

My sentiments exactly, but they're not going to fix it (at least the stuck note issue) on this release, at least according to the RMS forum folks. OSX, same as you, guess I'm just going to wait for T3....DHR53 wrote:So... I really like some of the stuff T does, like stretching audio quickly, and track routing... Aliased graphics, hung many times, cursor slow and choppy, midi editing still terrible.
Where was the update? T1 at least let you play a song all the way through. Is tracktion becoming another software where bugs are added faster than features?

Do you have a wheel mouse for your mac? If not I would highly recomend you get one: Tracktion's zooming and scrolling are a dream using mine..DHR53 wrote: Midi editor is still a pain, especially if you set the zoom to anything other than the largest size...

I'm working on a colour scheme which I think is better than the default T1/T2 colour schemes. When I have finished I'll try to post it somewhere. I have based it on the default colours used in Windows XP as I think they are best on the eyes IMHO

DHR53: nice!
The thing about the default T2 theme is that it makes the sequencer grid lines stick out a mile and it looks horrid when you're zoomed out. I liked some of beno's included themes. Bogic (sic) was quite nice and ambient.

HI
I have mainly been playing around with the midi side of things and to be fair unlike having a dedicated piano-roll page that by default will take up the ENTIRE screen space (if required) you really have to get into the mouse/scroll/ctrl and key commands to get the best out of T2.
I am not going to say I wish ...., actually I will - a simple scroll bar at the bottom of the main play view as per the side scroll would be nice, rather than the small scroll box in the top left - I will keep at it and see if I can get comfortable with it.
If I was working in audio only I think I would be pretty happy though.
Flipper.

I like the theme also, and would like if you shared it.
About T2: Here's the problem. Too many people are looking on the outside for feature updates. They get dissappointed when they don't see a new interface or as many new buttons as they would like. Tracktion isn't like that, and will likely not ever be. Instead, there were a ton of features added that aren't so apparent. And many things that you can't "see", like 64 bit mixing, and broadcast wave files. These are fantastic additions, but most people won't even know they are there.
To say that the first note feature won't be fixed is complete crap. Nobody ever said it wouldn't be fixed. And by saying that you will just have to wait till T3 suggests that you don't think it will be fixed. First of all, it's not a showstopper. Yeah, I know, I know, if you're doing film, it is to you. But it's not as big of a deal as you are making it out to be. The workaround is very simple, and won't ruin anything. I can tell you, that I know about film scoring and film to picture a bit. And I know MANY professional studios here in Nashville, very large ones, that work with some software that has bugs alot bigger than that. The two apps that are used here in Nashville(99.5% of the time) are ProTools and Nuendo. That's pretty much it. Are you going to tell me that Nuendo doesn't have any major bugs? I sure hope not. But film producers use it every day here.
The devs are aware of the problem, and it will likely be atop the list. Maybe it should have been fixed by now, I agree. But have some faith. I doubt you have to wait till T3 to get a fix.
Anyway, I will go out on a limb here and say that most people who diss a new app haven't spent much time with it. And those who expect it to be bug free are crazy.
I really like T2 so far. It's very refined, and although T1 was able to stand up to the "big boys" just fine, T2 really brings Tracktion to another maturity level. And it will continue to grow. Remember, this is only the second version total of Tracktion. Mackie is still fairly new to getting involved. Things will come to reality, and if it keeps going this way, Tracktion will be a larger force to deal with very soon. It's already a very professional app. And it's already more stable than any other sequencer I've tried, which is most of them.
Anyway, to make a long post longer, to say that T2 is a small update is a very unfounded statement. If you've spent more than five minutes with it, you would see it. MIDI isn't going to be as great as Logic, probably not for a long time, if ever. But it isn't as bad as it was. It's going forward. And the workflow in Tracktion (disclaimer: IMHO) is FAR greater than others, especially Logic. Tracktion, for the price, has features that others in the price range don't, and some that software costing four times as much doesn't have. It had freeze before even Logic had it, is the work of a single developer, and has already gotten great reviews.
So c'mon, cut a little slack. It may not be for everyone, but at least use facts with your statements and spend some time with it before dissing it.
Sorry, just killing some time during halftime of the Illinois/Louisville basketball game. I'll shut up now! Go Illinois!

HI
It's just what you get used to, I could make a tune in Logic far quicker than I currently can in T1/2 - BUT like everything the more you master a tool the greater your productivity will become - the thing that will ultimately speed up my productivity in T2 will come down to the very simple single screen thing - NO MULTIPLE SCREENS - so you get direct access to everything fron the one screen in the one screen (view).
The day Tracktion introduces another screen (view/page)is the day it will loose it's uniqueness, that is not to say that I personally wouldn't rather have a dbl click on midi/audio event taking me to another screen/page but you then get in to clutter - oh hell it's looking pretty good so why even bother hypothesising!
Flipper.
