Guitar -> Jan Hammer/Derek Sherinian tone?

I am about to begin collaborations with a DJ friend of mine and we are very much interested in the fusion of jazz and electronica. Forgive my ignorance on anything I post here, heh.
Anyway, I wondering if there is a plugin that can convert guitar into a variety of synth tones to better suit the context I will be improvising with.
Thanks

Lateral Solution's Guitar Synth.
Otherwise there are maybe two different apparoaches to this:
1. Use some FX to turn your guitar sound into something else.
2. Turn your playing into MIDI data to trigger synths.
First option's probably the easiest, but least likely to give you the results you're looking for. However, check Robert Fripp for using FX to take the guitar tone somewhere else.
The second option's a bit trickier. You'd probably be better off using something like a Roland guitar pickup/synth to trigger some tasty plugins. Using a plugin to turn your playing into MIDI would limit you to using monophonic lines (one note at a time, no chords), and I'm not aware of anything that tracks accurately enough not to be a pain in the arse.

Heh, I actually found that while searching through the forum for my answer. The latency for it is awful though, I wish it used ASIO
I am trying to figure out how to reduce the latency...Any tips?
And I'm perfectly happy with monophonic lines, the overdriven sound I wish to use would not go well with chords.
I would love to get the Roland synth pickup but alas, I play nylon string guitar...The pickup doesn't pick up nylon vibrations.
Thank you

I'm really not an expert on this, but my gut feeling is that if you want to use a distorted tone, you'd be better off using FX than trying to get a pitch tracking solution working OK. Especially using a miked up/piezo'd acoustic.
The Jan Hammer sound relies heavily on pitch bend and vibrato, and this is VERY tricky to usefully convert from playing into a MIDI stream.
Try downloading some freeware distortions (Camel Phat Free is a good place to start - crank up the compression too), a phaser/chorus, a filter and a delay. For a steady sustained note you may want some super heavy compression at the front of the chain.
Hope this helps.

Ah, I play with nylon strings so bending is pretty much impossible. I solo like a saxophone player...All monophonic but very fast lines. That's why the lack of good tracking bothers me.
And I have Guitar Rig for distorted tone...I just want that smoothish synth wave tone, ya know? It would suit electronica style tracks much more than distortion.
Thanks again

Digitec SynthWah pedal is cheap and gets Mahivishnu and J. Hammer vibes for very cheap. I just used it to track that vibe 2 weeks ago. Esp when used in conjunction with multi-effects you already own.

Here's a VST one(guitar-midi converter plugin) that works in a host that supports ASIO http://www.nuton.ca/g_musiciendoz.htmlEggo wrote:I actually found that while searching through the forum for my answer. The latency for it is awful though, I wish it used ASIO![]()
