I was listening to an old Chemical Brothers DJ set the other day that opens with a Meat Beat Manifesto track (I forget the name) but it's a corker!
Does anyone have any recommendations for MBM albums that I should check out?

Storm the Studio - it was way ahead of its time when it was released at the end of the 80`s and it's still amazing now. It's been recently remastered and rereleased, and sounds better than ever. Maximum breakbeat/hiphop/dub/craziness.

the only mbm album i have is subliminal sandwhich.. and funny that you should mention it, because it just hit me yesterday that it's been a long time since i've last listened to it, and i have been thinking about giving it a listen.
as for how that album compares to others, i don't know.. because really the only other mbm song i know is the one from the matrix soundtrack.. but that's a pretty awesome song.
the album i have is somewhat slow (compared to, say, VAC) but its one of those cds i have where i enjoy every track.. of course, you're milage may vary.

Hell, it's all good - guess I've just got a soft spot for all the grit of their early years... so for me it'll always be Storm the Studio, Armed Audio Warfare and that Dog Star Man EP.
Jack's done some different and equally cool stuff with Tino Corp. and Perennial Divide as well. Worth a listen.

Meat Beat Manifesto is one of my favourite bands. It actually anticipated Chem. Bro's sound and much better. I'd recommend '99%', 'Subliminal Sandwich' and 'Actual sounds+voices'. 'Satyricon' is great too.

One other band from the early 90's you might wanna check out is an act called Consolidated. Not too many people have heard of them, but they were pretty f**king good too, at least on their first(only?) LP..
edit: I just remembered..they also did that great track "You suck" that was played in like every f**king club for years..Who was the chick that sung that for them again? f**king druggie, I can't remember shit from back then..

Oh yeah... poster boys of the PC brigade... the rhetoric was hard to take but the music was OK, if a little lightweight.Sickle wrote:Consolidated.

Good weekend music, but yeah, the rhetoric was pretty extreme..College radio loved em for that.dystonia_ek wrote:Oh yeah... poster boys of the PC brigade... the rhetoric was hard to take but the music was OK, if a little lightweight.Sickle wrote:Consolidated.

"Dont think its a drag/to suck my c**t when i'm on the rag"
Apart from that Consolidated annoyed me: lightweight politics and lumpen music.
Not exactly The Pop Group or Gang of Four

What I always liked about then was the little between track bits, of them live or on the radio, when they would do little between songs chats/arguments with the crowds at their gigs. Very funny, and showed they had a sense of humour beyond their politics.dystonia_ek wrote:Oh yeah... poster boys of the PC brigade... the rhetoric was hard to take but the music was OK, if a little lightweight.Sickle wrote:Consolidated.
And 'Butyric Acid' still hits like train. But then Jack produced most of their stuff I believe.
