Hi, does anyone here know if the new Kontakt 2 soundengine is a improvement over the old one? Is the sample interpolation improved (the old engine sucked in this department) filters and effects, any improvements?

Well, I'd like to know why you thought Kontakt 1's engine "sucked" as it was an industry standard sampler.. but I think Kontakt 2 sounds even better nonetheless. Lots of effects, modules (etc) to play with, and they all sound great to me.

I'm not knocking Kontakt, it is my go to sampler (because the user interface is great), but the sample interpolation and filters are truly awful, nothing like hardware at all.

I'm glad you think Kontakt 2 sounds better though, all the new features looks promising, I was only wondering if there had been any improvements to the existing ones.

If you like the interface in Kontakt 1 you will eventually love the new interface in Kontakt 2 in my opinion. I think the new layout is much friendly to work with once you figure it out.
Confusion will be my epitaph

"Sucked" may be a bit harsh, but it's fairly common knowledge - kontakt's popularity notwithstanding - that its sound engine came up at the bottom of the heap when compared to the competition.

That said, kontakt2 claims to have an improved, better sounding engine.

I don't have any NI products, but I'm definitely interested in this one. Can anyone clue me in as to what the copy protection is like (I'm assuming v2 will be same as v1). How intrusive?

Personally I cant hear any differences between version 1 and version 2, except for the NEW filters and convolution fx, after comparing them side by side. The new modulation and routing options are pretty cool.I have heard different views from other well respected people but if there are any differences then I cannot hear them!

I 've been using Kontakt 1.5 for quite a long time, and in the few days that i had the option to play with Kontakt 2, i can honestly say that the new Kontakt sound is way better. With effects or dry, all samples come out bigger, more "wide" and more detailed. It sounds like a marked improvement in dynamic range. The same single sample, loaded in both v1.5 and v2, sounds more detailed and dynamic in v2. To my ears, at least.

Exactly what I wanted to hear, Sotiris!

flugel45, the copy protection is challenge/response afaik, I haven't had any problems with it here (v.1.5), and you can authorize two different computers if you like.
