Elephant Rocks! I have a few limiters here and always end up selecting Elephant! this limiter really sounds good!

My expectations about EL-3 mode: it should be comparable to Precision Limiter, if not better.

Okay,so tell me how to make it sound like PL (that little extra detail I hear) then I'll tweak it to sound better from there. You did have some figures about settings corresponding to PL's "fixed values". I just cant't make out what to dial in.

NOTE! A quick bug fix for Elephant v2.3 is available. It fixes intermediate stereo-linking behavior and also improves EL-3 mode a bit. Version number has not been changed. You may download an updated setup file. I'm sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

Please note the user's manual - it now includes information about Shape control in EL-3 mode.

tombuur, first of all, please download the fixed v2.3.

Default plug-in's state should be enough to get you started - dial-in the desired In gain and finetune the RShape control to get a cleaner sound. Then finally adjust the Shape control - it subtly controls the overall coloration.

Okay, I will try toníght. I only bought Elephant because I wanted some other Voxengo plugs, and including Elephant in the bundle only increased the price by $20. I thought it was close to PL anyway, and not having bought the latter yet I might perhaps save $200. Just too bad I only discovered yesterday intro price for HarmoniEQ has vanished.

Wow - pretty nice changes you put in Aleksey - I'm messin with the bottom end in EL-3 mode and things are a lot clearer and easier to dial in now. Thanx

Plus TRANSFER CURVES in the manual - yippee! :D
Seriously though - a picture can say a lot - thanx...

EL-3 definately sounds like the best one to me. Unfortunately my UA Precision Limiter demo has expired so I can not do any A/B testings. Out of curiosity, did you have somebody send you files processed with the UA PL or did you have someone send test signals through it? Or did you just develop EL-3 from scratch paying special attention to how the limiting affects the bass?

Post

Brian, indeed, I have analyzed UA PL's response and performance.

Elephant could use a Hi Pass filter, pre limiter algorithim, and post oversampling.

Very funny :)

electro, it's just exactly what it possess. :) (pre limiter=look ahead?)

It was a suggestion for a simple low cut filter before the limiter. That would be good for those who load an eq plugin before limiter to get rid of some of the lows with the hi pass filter. Not really a feature request, but just a thought.

That's exactly what the DC filter in Elephant is - as far as i can tell. You choose the lowest frequency you want, and everything below (down to DC) is removed.

Post

electro, like greendoor suggested, use DC Filter - it is exactly low cut filter. It is steep: -36 dB/oct.
