I was about to iniciate a new thread but saw this one and i believe is pointeless to iniciate it ,well at least i think it is.
I´m thinking on buying a laptop , i hope they are silent enough ,cause the reason is to make vcals takes ,without the background noise of my stock P4 .
So i thougth why not a Mac laptop ,i believe they call it I-books , since Steinberg runs on both machines and i can connect them by VSL ,plus i have the opportunity to check out a lot of applications that are MAC only.
One of those applications that are MAC only is L7.
Almost all power users i met across the Web ,claim
to be using it on Dual G5 .
My question is :"How much power do i need to run on logic a project with 10 audio tracks using a limiter ,compressor , EQ some modulation FX , 1 drum sampler open ,2 Virtual instruments , a quality reverb running as send , plus a mastering compressor ,limiter and EQ running on the Master Bus ???
I´m sorry if the question is too long but i also would like to know if on Logic i can use FX on the input channel ,opposed to track channel ,with purpose of recording a already processed signal .
Thank you for listening.

Adding PDC to an app seems to increase CPU consumption quite a lot. I wonder if this might have a detrimantal effect on Logic's CPU use? I also wonder if PDC can affect stability?

thx for the info, sascha!
hmm, the link doesn´t work for me..I´d love to read about the other things they´ll change in 7.1....but full PDC sounds great!
any other resources to the upate-specs, anyone?

Yes, you can use FX on input channels.
If you are familiar with Cubase and PCs allready, I wouldn't get any mobile Apple computer though.
And while some of the powerbooks might meet your requirements, I-books ost likely won't.
Really, I have just been working on some powerbook 1,42GHz - NO way I'd ever buy such a thing! Sure, hardware quality is great, battery life is as well, Logic is running very stable under OSX, but uhm.... performance is something entirely different (I know, some Mac folks will disagree... but I DID some 1:1 comparison with my own laptop and the powerbook, well... I've hardly ever seen some computer's butt being kicked that badly).
Seriously, in case I'd get a Mac it had to be a dual G5. In case I'd buy a mobile (well, I allready have one...) it had to be a PC. Price/performance tags simply aren't competitive at all on powerbooks.

Well, the most revolutionary thing for me would be that ALL your audio can now follow both tempo AND pitch transistions.
I really wonder about the quality of that... but I feel that dual G5 becoming more and more tempting.

I'll second all of that. I had used Cubase for years under OS9 - loved it - went OS X (as you must) and saw Cubase SX and nearly shat myself with fear. Soooooooo different, man..... a debate here about why cubase sx is so f**king shit as well as every other audio application, and why logic rules. I think you and I are the ultimate logic lovers Sasha
Little adviser said "get Logic".
Got Logic.
Love it.

If you want to uh, "really experience" Logic... I'd suggest a Dual G5. Anything less would be... uncivilized

Well on some projects i can go pretty mad about FX ,after all they are there and i like a lot to experiment new things .
The project "template" i was querring about i think it´s quite standart on Pop/Rock genres .
the main reason for the lappy was silence .
I know some sequencer can run on a Centrino machine quite sucessfully i was hoping that on some Mac the same could happen .
A dual G5 nevertheless ,albeit being a good proposition ,it´s not what i´m looking for ,thankfully i have already enough processing power ,not that i wouldn´t feel happy with more but a P4 3.4ghz ,2mb of RAM and 4 UAD cards ,it´s easy to squeeze them dry but i´ll say that i can go on with confidence from one project to another.
Thank you for answering ,i´ll check the powerbooks myself on the local store and see what´s going on .
I´m just too curious.
Bye.

The truth is Sasha is right about the powerbooks being under spec CPU wise, but in practice I'm thinking about a new 12" 1.5. Logic 7 on a 1.5 would probably compare to SX on a 2.3 or so, the performance difference between Logic and SX is pretty steep. Now Logic PC also outperformed Logic mac, simply because the G4 with an altivec enhanced app like Logic is not fast as pure CPU speed on a PC, and if I remember right Emagic did SSE enhancements for PC.stag wrote: the main reason for the lappy was silence .

SX3 on a mac is pretty much a slug unless you set the buffer really high, but with system link..... I dunno? I'd do it if I was a SX user? (get both a PC and mac that is)

Very true. Even on PCs the difference is still significant due to Logic's clever handling of plugins.machinesworking wrote: Logic 7 on a 1.5 would probably compare to SX on a 2.3 or so, the performance difference between Logic and SX is pretty steep.

i am thinking Logic 7.1 with reason 3 rewired to it on a dual g5 2.5. seriously.
You know you wanna.
I recently had a thread in which i decided no other host will ever cut it for me and so i'm getting me a Mac.
Oddly enough stag who is now asking how good logic is was bashing it for no reason in that thread.
