Is it just me or is the demo of pro tools m-powered crippled with bugs? It has crashed three times now. I'm using a Firewire 410.
I'm heading back to trusty old Ableton Live 4...

Nice.. I have the FW 410.. Could someone tell why I should use 350$ on PT? What makes it so great and different from Logic, SX, Sonar and so on?

According to someone at M-Audio they'll get around to supporting all M-Audio products eventually.tkmattson wrote:Why isn't the M-Audio Firewire Solo supported?

I think it's worse than just about any alternative personally, but some people need for compatibility reasons or customers demanding it in project studios,so now they don't have to deal with a crappy performing USB M-Box or spring a grand on the 002R.Orbitutle wrote:Nice.. ProTools are better then most other host when taking about audio handling. Midi is good also, not like Logic or Cubase but adding something like energy xt make it a great midi host also.

Still, for that kind of money (actually $499) i can get Samplitude Classic , with double the amount of tracks, object based editing, same quality effects, much better dither and audio features that pip pro tools to the post.[ Lex ] wrote:ProTools are better then most other host when taking about audio handling. samplitude has no true sidechaing nor beatdetective... so in my point of view it sucks.
But samplitude is very good also, specially the object concept and high quality fx, but still, cutting up and editing audio isnt really a joy.
In the end it all depends on _what_ and _how_ the host is used that determine the judgement of better/worse.

I think the sidechaining/beat detective fall mainly in the mixing and the arrangement categories respectively. Sorry for saying audio features, what i meant was audio handling/editing.[ Lex ] wrote:samplitude has no true sidechaing nor beatdetective... so in my point of view it sucks.

Well,PTLE isn't compatible with TDM/Accel/HD either(only RTAS).M-Powered PT is compatible with the same RTAS plugs as LE.I'm pretty sure that Logic and now DP are compatible with TDM on the Mac side of things if your willing to shell out that kind of $$$.Accel/TDM cards aren't exactly cheap. However, the new TC PowerCore is now RTAS compatible so you do have the option(Virus) at a much cheaper price.ford442 wrote:i was excited about this whole thing until i found that it will not run all ProTools plug-ins - no Virus TDM for example..

? was pointing that out with the parenthesis. Sorry i didn't make it clear. Also pointed out the numerous more things you get for $150 more, like double the tracks etc.

I agree,in fact Sonar is my main app and it will probably stay that way because there are plenty of things that it has the MP-PT lacks(better VI support/PDC/Better Midi etc.),but,M-Audio is a better alternative to M-Box(USB dropout box) for those project studios pressured to have some representation of PT,and it is a very nice app for linear recording and audio editing for those more into that sort of thing and now has Beat Detective LE,and you have access to the Bomb Factory and other RTAS plugs as well.Either way,I feel M-Audio is a much better choice than M-Box on the lower end and possibly the 002 eventually, especially if you already have M-Audio hardware.popsych wrote:Also pointed out the numerous more things you get for $150 more, like double the tracks etc.

Funnily enough you need TDM hardware to run TDM plugins....
