CHAINER USERS - a question for you.........

I've been happily using Chainer now for about a month and think its an awesome piece of work. I can stack up five or six VST synths and it wont complain (but only if I use the Asio4all drivers>> http://www.asio4all.com/
..otherwise my standard XP ASIO drivers often lag with certain synths)
Anyway. My question is, is anyone out there running a VST drum machine in Chainer, and if so, could you give me the name of it, and possibly a url?
I'm looking for a vst plugin that will work in Chainer and generate rythms and drums and stuff.
Ive tried several, including Ravity, but they dont work in Ccccchainer.
Thanks
Tin

The following all work in Chainer: Psychic Modulation's Cerebrum 2, Linplug RM IV, Nusofting DK+ and MicroTonic. They can be found in the upper right hand column of the home page where it says 'Quick links are hidden'. Click on that and you will see links to instruments, effects, hosts and companies.Tinfish wrote: Anyway. BTW-Some software drum machines don't work like hardware drum machines. That is they need a midi drum track/pattern to generate beats/rythms from their drum samples. The ones I named above either have a step mode screen to enter notes and/or come with preset patterns.

Thanks. I tried the DR-008 but it crashed my pc twice and locked it solid (had to hit the power button to reboot). The RMIV drum box did work tho, and it looks a nice bit of software.
Question> Is it possible to trigger a vst synth thats running in Chainer from the RMIV drumbox (thats also running in Chainer) ...and if so, hows it done?
Also, is there a drumbox out there that will make weird beats and rythms, and will run in Chainer?
Thanks for any 'input' or 'feedback'

What PC specs and sound card are you using? They may be part of your problem here.Tinfish wrote:Thanks. I tried the DR-008 but it crashed my pc twice and locked it solid (had to hit the power button to reboot). The RMIV drum box did work tho, and it looks a nice bit of software.

Its ok, I'm up and running now with the Linplug RMIV - WOW,what a box!
u-Tonic is quite something as well, but my midi keyboard keeps triggering different patterns when I press the keys and it sounds a bit chaotic at times. Is there a way to tweak a switch in u-tonic to stop it happening?
Funny thing. I downloaded the RMIV demo last night and was expecting the hiss noise every minute or so, like you get in demos. But its running like a normal full product (minus the tons of presets of course)

I'll give you a hint:
Try different octaves.

Hi Muku,
I read over the manual but could only find this >>>
(any other clues?)
--
"If you use a MIDI keyboard or sequencer to play the µTonic the channels are triggered by certain keys on the keyboard. The first channel (labeled I on the screen) is triggered by C1 (MIDI note-number 36), the second by C#1 (note-number 37) and so on. (There are other functions assigned to other keys on the keyboard, see 4.3 MIDI Keyboard for more information.)
The µTonic answers to all MIDI channels, so it does not matter which MIDI channel you use. MIDI velocity may affect the sound as just described, but the pitch and mod wheel do not; nor do any other MIDI controllers. Also, observe that the sounds of the µTonic cannot be "sustained" but are always "one-shot" triggered (i.e. played from start to end once triggered)."

The very 1st paragraph in the manual states:
"The sound engine of the µTonic offers
eight channels of monophonic sound
(called drum channels or simply channels)."
When the manual refers to "Channels" in µtonic,
it's not refering to midi
channels, but the 8 audio
channels in the plugin
itself.
Have you tried using those key
ranges on your midi keyboard ?
Be aware that what you think
of as C3 might be different in
µtonic.
Each Key Range ( as specified
in the manual) does a different thing.....
C1-G1 is for playing the individual audio " channels"
C4 is used to stop the
sequencer.
Midi channel is irrelevant.
µtonic recieves on all channels.
It's easy just try it.....

Thnks. What Im aiming for is to control u-tonic with the mouse only and have no midi keys affecting it, but at he same time still be using synths in Chainer controlled by my midi keyboard. Where I might come unstuck with your tips is, I cant asign any midikeys on the keyboard I have, as its just a Creative music kboard with midi output.
Any further hints apprecaited tho

is an ancient MidiPlus
that I picked up secondhand
for $50 AUD so i wouldn't
feel too bad about the
Creative.
Can you select which midi
channel the Creative outputs?
If so, just switch channels
from the keyboard and set the
Chainer channel that u-Tonic is on
to a different midi channel.
heheheh lol.
We now have 3 different kinds
of channels being referred to
here....midi channels, u-Tonic
channels and Chainer channels.
All different things!
Anyway I just tried it here and it works.....

Muku,
In Chainer, on the drop down tab where you select Instruments etc, it says Input - and you can add and Input to a slot if you select it. Any idea where that input comes from or what it does? Could I for example run u-Tonic in another host then 'input' it through Chainer that way?
(No luck with the midi 1 and 2 fix u suggested, this keyboard is a single midi thingummy mk-1
----- later that night (update) ----
Ok Muku, I got it going, thanks! I just clicked on chanel 10 (at the bottom of Chainer and put U-tonic in that slot, then I canged the midi 'channel' number from 'all' to number three, and its working a treat on its own now without the keyboard getting in the way ...thanks to your 'input'.
Thanks again
