For those who are unfamiliar with this bands crazy blend of electronic and live, REALLY HEAVY music, this is a neat way to introduce yourself to them, because if you hate the music (and god knows there are many who would), you still have a really neat collectible.
Fantomas has a new album

Its called "Suspended Animation" and it is just plain insane. It also has a really cool jacket/30 page booklet/calendar thingy illustrated by Yoshitomo Nara.

YESSSSSS!!!!!
I was waiting for this, forgot it came out today. Sounds like a polar opposite of Delirium Cordia, but should be fun as hell. Limited edition of 25,000, so hurry up kids.

If your interested, Mike Patton is interviewed in (and is the cover artist for) the April edition of WIRE magazine.
I came across the music of Mr Bungle more or less by chance some years ago ago. And Fantomas a little later by extension. Apart from exploring the work of bands that are directly related by way of sharing musicians/composers, can anyone come up with any other "you liked that, so you're sure to like this" reccomendations?
Just bought Suspended Animation and I'm looking forward to it.

My favorite current bands are the Melvins and Tomahawk.
The Melvins are old and famous (sort of), but have never lost their edge. They have worked with everyone (Buzz plays guitar in both the Melvins and Fantomas). Tomahawk has the drummer from Helmet and the one and only Duane Denison (of Jesus Lizard fame) on guitar, with Patton on vocals.
Ipecac is a cool label, run by Patton and the guy from Alternative Tentacles. The Melvins' albums on that label, particularly (imho) "The Bootlicker" and "The Maggot" are just really damn cool.
The best intro to the Jesus Lizard is probably "Blue"
Tomahawk has only two albums, both really great for mauling cement blocks to.
Patton has worked with almost everyone. He even showed up on a recent Bjork c.d.
Much, much earlier, but with a similar violent manic intelligence, was the Robert Fripp Album "Exposure". Some moments therein are positively scary, and quite ahead of their time.

Do the Residents still exist, do you know?Voidoid Surrealist wrote:Some bands you might like if you like fantomas:

And is Orthrelm a drum/guitar instrumental duo? If so, I do believe I have seen (and been quite impressed by) them.

And, yeah, that's the same Orthrelm.
If you like 2 man band drum/guitar duos, be sure to check out Hella's album Hold Your Horse Is. The musicianship is f**king AMAZING. Hell, everyone should hear it, Regardless of what sort of music they like..*
*Not to mention that I actually live right near the Republic of Rough and Ready! (track 04)

Thanks for all the suggestions.
And yeah, Fripps’s “Exposure” has some amazing moments. “Disengage” is one of my all time favorite scary songs.
