Hi guys. In my quest to get some decent but affordable monitoring headphones, I got lucky with two pairs of Sennheiser HD535's. They dont make these now, but are the dynamic equiv of the 660. Only one problem - they are unused reference phones from the BBC, and therefore the cabling sprouts from the top. Totally unwieldly to be honest, and unusable until I sort it. I tried myself, but, with my cack handed cable splicing, I cannot get past crackles in the lines. So, went to a couple of hifi shops to see if they would do the job - nope. "You need to send them to Sennheiser" etc. Bollocks. Its a simple cut/splice solder job that just needs a steady hand. So .... here's the deal. I have two pairs. If someone would undertake this job for me, I will send them both pairs, and they would just send me one pair back, keeping the other for themselves. Any takers? I will post out asap, or if you live around Manc area, I will drop off.

Here's a pic ..

I'll do it, but I'm in Norway. Split the postage?

Edit - I'm a service engineer, and use soldering irons and multimeters daily...

I think you could just get a replacement cable from Sennheiser which connects straight to the bottom of the ear things (sorry, don't know the english word). Usually they are plugs that you can pull out (at least on their HD25s they are). So you'd just ignore the plug at the top and replace the cable.

Seriously, I only found out about the cables being actually plugged rather than soldered by accident. Just try to pull them out (from the picture it looks like exactly the same plugs as on my HD25).

Otherwise, I'll gladly *repair* them for you - but believe me, it's not necessary. No soldering job required, just 5 € (or so) for a new set of cables.

I would love having the cable on top... That makes it easier for me to move in my room while wearing the headphones. But my Sennheiser doesn't have room for a plug on top :(

Hovmod, tell you what. You get the cables orderd up from Sennheiser ..and I will send you a pair of the phones? - to reiterate, these phones are brand new and unused.

I've seen these before, they were uses in stores to demonstration purposes, and were connected to the ceiling; when done listening you just put them off, and they would be hanging on the ceiling.
Now what is wrong with that?

Eh? Nothing's wrong with it - in context.

But you try sitting at a desk with the damned things sprouting from your head and dropping over your face. Not easy :hihi:

I've got the Sennheiser guy on the case now, and he's promised to get back to me within a couple of hours.
Do they say HD535-9 or something? The topheavy version isn't the standard...
Anyway, I'll pay for the cable and I'll even do the job for you if you want. Some (most) models require soldering, which I'm not the least bit afraid of doing...

Seriously, most Sennheiser HD models don't require soldering - and no, I'm not trying to keep Hovmod away from a new pair of headphones.
Unfortunately, their online shop doesn't seem to be available in english, but on this site you'll just see the matching cables:

Just seen that they are 22.50 €!!! That's freaking ROBBERY!
