Hey. Hold on. I haven't forgotten about Talking Heads or Madness. The groups we mention here are groups we remember!

Can't quite remember - What was Tina Weymouth using for Synth Bass (for "This Must Be The Place" if I remember correctly, or was it "Girlfriend Is Better") - was it a Pro One or a Moog Rogue or what? I've got the picture in my mind, but it's kind of blurry, discolored, and faded - all due to improper storage I imagine.Hovmod wrote:I bought "stop making sense" on DVD a few months ago thinking I'd get a kick out of it, remembering I once thought it was the best concert movie ever, but I've seen it once.stefancrs wrote:Talking Heads

And that's a bit sad.

Talk Talk
Devo
Thompson Twins
Japan
Howard Jones
Gary Numan
CNN (late to be X-CNN then I think Tinstar)
Rollasoc
and has some great albums under his belt.
I think Howard Jones is writing pop songs these days.
Lene Lovich is one I can remember, she had a hit with Lucky Number on the Stiff label. Gwen Stefani seemed to rip it off and her sound on some recent releases

All I can remember about that is David Byrne's awesome performance of Psycho Killer at the opening with just a guitar and a ghetto blaster. And the big suit of course. Great video.tkmattson wrote:Can't quite remember - What was Tina Weymouth using for Synth Bass (for "This Must Be The Place" if I remember correctly, or was it "Girlfriend Is Better") - was it a Pro One or a Moog Rogue or what? SLOWDIVE - SOUVLAKI
Dreamy shoegaze always churns up some nice early nineties memories. I remember driving to Calgary for my second year of tech and rushing out to buy this album without even unpacking. This CD has probably logged about 3000 hours in my player over the years. I've also managed to wreck a couple pairs of reasonably nice headphones from falling asleep and waking up in the morning with the cable wrapped around my head.

SUCKERPUNCH - CAROLS FROM THE CANYON
A canadian band that made a cool twangy, surfy psychobilly-like album back around '94 or so. This was some great "off to the ski hill" travelling music.

Naah, not a trick question. :-) Maybe not the best wording though.
The idea is just to bring some good stuff up out of memories that have faded. F'rex, I thought of the group "Pure Prairie League" when posting to the "Truck drivin' music" thread. It had been soooo long since I'd thought about Pure Prairie League or the Allman Brothers, who used to be among my favorites (Ah'm a southern skunk). I didn't forget their existence, but their songs no longer occupy space in my mental jukebox... they don't spontaneously play in my head when there's nothing to listen to, that is.
No trick, just treat. :-)

THAT is still awesome! Completely stunning! I'd kill for his right hand. Man, what a rhythm and control, and all that while staggering around like a spastic madman!
Apart from that, I guess I still like burning down the house and take me to the river, mostly for nostalgic reasons.
Don't know what Tina used for synth bass, but I almost had to look away when she was in focus - she moves like..like.. uh .. bad.

Neds Atomic Dustbin is one that comes to my mind. And what the hell happened to Love and Rockets. A lot of the ones that I've thought of have been answered by VH1 Bands Reunited..... ABC for example.

Yeah, she does dance like she went to art school. Wait a minute, she did go to art school. She plays some great funky bass lines though - the type of inventiveness you just don't hear in basslines much anymore. People seem glued to the 8th/16th note root thing again. Depressing. I'll take "More melodic bass lines" for $500, Alex.Hovmod wrote:CypherOne wrote:All I can remember about that is David Byrne's awesome performance of Psycho Killer at the opening with just a guitar and a ghetto blaster.
