Okay, I know this is a dopey question, and stuff I should already know, but... can someone explain what sysex is used for, how I could potentially use it in Foorius, and why there are some settings (under the sysex folder in the Foorius package) that reference my medieval tx81z?

'sysex' is the abbreviation for 'system exclusive' (it's a part of the midi-specifications) - these are the respective preset-parameters for a certain synth/certain family of synth - sysex-files are preset-files - Foorius can read TX81z 'sysex'-files (also DX21/27/100) which means that you can export TX81z presets as sysex-files and then import them into Foorius.
(or you could of course download thousands of them from the internet)

So, the presets would sound the same, or similar, to how they did on my TX81Z? Am I understanding that correctly?jens wrote:Foorius can read TX81z 'sysex'-files (also DX21/27/100) which means that you can export TX81z presets as sysex-files and then import them into Foorius.(or you could of course download thousands of them from the internet)

did a quick browse of the included sysex... seems like the import needs a little more work. Everything sounds like bells...

OK
Heres my first efforts
10 presets. Made first by importing my own TX81Z sounds ( created from scratch) and tweaking them quite a bit in Floorius. On some I experimented with the different filter types and even did a warp distorto one ( I like it too)I really had to bring down the sustain and release envelopes on most of the imported stuff. Fortunatly, Floorius has a "cut length in half" feature: very handy indeed.

At least a few to start with.Comments welcome.

Edit: also added my version of the Lately Bass preset
