Ok Muku, I got it going, thanks! I just clicked on chanel 10 (at the bottom of Chainer and put U-tonic in that slot, then I canged the midi 'channel' number from 'all' to number three, and its working a treat on its own now without the keyboard getting in the way :)

Thanks again

In Chainer, on the drop down tab where you select Instruments etc, it says Input - and you can add an Input to a slot if you select it. Any idea where that input comes from or what it does? Could I for example run u-Tonic in another host then 'input' it through Chainer that way?
Well..that's for audio input
from your soundcard so.....
maybe yes...that might work
(No luck with the midi 1 and 2 fix u suggested, this keyboard is a single midi thingummy mk-1
Bummer...it was worth a try

hmmm ....that tends to indicate
that your Creative keyboard
is outputting midi on one
channel...be worth finding out
which channel that is......

lol
We all need one of them mate!
There's nothing wrong with my
setup that $100,000 wouldn't
fix!

Too true! ..but an $85 midi keyboard would do me for now
:)

Another question if I may? Now that Ive got u-Tonic running in Chainer - without any midi keyboard input - is there any way I can make u-tonic trigger a vst synth in another slot in chainer? As it is now, I can get u-tonic to pump out some great beats but the rythm is less changeable since I removed the midi keyboard input ....so I'd like to try and make the rythm trigger another synth if pos.

Dont think so; AFAIK Chainer doesnt let plugins modify and pass on MIDI, and Im not even sure if uTonic outputs MIDI; I'd suspect not.

If yo're looking for a host that lets you set up multiple chans of synths and effects, try looking at energyXT; it will handle MIDI routing as well.

If you use Energy XT you can - I've run Kontakt samples using u-tonic demo outputting midi (it does output midi WR). But doesn't work in Chainer for reasons stated; you need more flexible routing to cut off u-tonic's audio without stopping it playing and route it's midi out to another instrument (btw I've even run my hardware synth from a VSTi outputting midi though not this one).

No......
µTonic does not have midi out

You know you can chain patterns together in µTonic?

Another thing you could do is record the output of
µTonic then use a sample player VST to play back the wav files.
Your problems are mainly caused by the limitations of
Chainer....

Yes, thanks. I'm trying out EnergyXT now. It doesent look nearly as good as Chainer, but if it can the extra stuff then Ill go for it.

From the UK to Australia on this cold but calm grey Spring morning ...over and out for now

energtXT can be reskinned, if you dont like its look. And it can do way more than Chainer; or just pretty much the same; its your choice....

You didn't jump on the free version of Tracktion
when it was avaiable?

EnergyXT is a VST host ...so you should be able to run
the VST version of chainer inside EnergyXT.

Best of both worlds.
