Will the dimention synth be a "full" version, or an "OEM" version. We have been through an experience with VSampler which left a bit of a bad taste at the time.

as i understand it, Dimension is Dxi and will function in any host that supports Dxi
so the one and only version is Dxi and a full 1000 preset, 3 gig version

The main issue with all of your tests are external synths.R2Project wrote:I was desperatly trying to stay out of this conversation (I'm sitting on the fence patiently waiting for the upgrade to ship !) but then I see this old chestnut. Whenever I've run tests (and I haven't run them for a while) I see Project 5 using CPU usage to any other hosts. Lets see If I can find the thread and see if the pics are still around:So far CPU Load is a major issue with P5 where it puts you off.At cakewalk, they expect you to have super computer to manipulate full capabilities of P5

I didn't do Cubase at the time because I couldn't stand the interface and I don't seem to be able to find a demo version today.

You should have try to use the fixed buffers in FL Studio.

Try these tests with ASIO drivers set to 3-5ms latencies. Unless your the type that inputs your notes with the 'pencil' tool...that's what I find workable when tracking. At these settings I experienced CPU spikes and many times the program would just close unexpectedly. I find a sort of fidgety behavior with all cakewalk. It's like buying an American car(Ford for instance). They put all the features in at an affordable price, but the friggin' thing ends up in the shop all the time.

As opposed to a German car (yes, I have driven some) where everything is there, but in unreachable or bizarre places :-)

Personally I love FL. Been loving it since version 1
. Anyhow, Acid I can't say the same for. It's such a hassle using it, to me at least. And eventually i'm buying a new host, so I ask you...
Cubase SE/SL/SX or P5?
Don't worry I'm never going to stop using FL

I'd sure like more details like how midi editing works, are there track folders, are there still seperate audio and midi tracks like in Sonar, how does it handle multi-out Vsti/Dxi plugs, etc.
A downloadable manual would be nice.

From what I've seen at the MusikMesse in Frankfurt:
1) gapless audio - yes
2) vsti/dxi - yes, they seem to work great
3) groove matrix - great, I prefered it to Live (which I don't use btw)

arrange view next to the groove matrix, dragging files from one to the other, sample content (from what I've heard), groove clips as in Sonar - meaning you can acidize files on the fly in the arrange part and drop them to the groove matrixstale bread wrote:being that you don't use Live what made you prefer P5?
I'm not saying Live is bad, I've tried the demo, it's just not for me (I use relatively few loops and think P5 would let me combine loops and my way of working better)

Acid was cool when it was just for manipulating audio parts. That was it's core functionality so everything about it was built for that. Then the inevitable happened as it happens to all audio software. As it tries to grow and include more and more features and abilities, the new features don't necessarily fit well with the original design paradigm. This is what we've began to call "bolted on". It's happening with all the popular sequencers we use. A good example is the soft studio's attempts at Rewire and Audio recording, editing, tracking. It's there, but if you have any pre-existing solution for these things, it's almost certain to be better and preferable. Acid's attempt at adding midi was at best laughable. VSTis in Acid is anything but smooth. Other than redesigning the whole interface, "bolted on" is their only option. Looks great on a featurelist, but in use, it's an entirely different story. I don't think there's an easy answer other than amazing foresight on the part of developers to know what might happen a few years down the road.J_Starner wrote:Personally I love FL. HI
IMO there is a solution and it is (of course) to totally rewrite the program - a mamoth task no doubt but how else can you expect to knock the socks of potential and current users - unless you do it properly?
I imagine the counter argument is it has taken several years to code the program to the point it is now at and the potential cost cannot be recouped by sales.
I would then say have less features but what is in there needs to work and work well enough for people to say 'hey this platform is rock solid and lets me do most of the main stuff I want to do'.

Does anyone know whether the price for an crossgrade to P5v2 will remain £99 for Sonar users through EdirolUK? At the moment it's £99 for a crossgrade from Sonar to P5v1.5 (this includes a free upgrade to P5v2.)
I'd buy the crossgrade if it stays at £99. But sometimes, with a new version, some devs add on a sneaky £50 when the new version is released.
Anyone with a crystal ball?

HI
Why not just get a copy of P5?
You can probably pick one up for that kind of price and you then get a free up-date anyway.
