munchkin: to save you some time, I will point out that although Edirol UK are still showing this crossgrade offer for Sonar users on their site, you won't be able to take advantage of it. I ordered this from Edirol last weekend and payment was accepted, but I received an email on Monday stating that they had no stock and wouldn't be getting any more stock of this version in.

The email did say that Sonar users would get a discount off version 2 but didn't specify how much and seeing as the offer now only amounts to around £50 in real terms (I haven't come across any major audio supplier selling it for more than £150), I cannot see the Sonar users' price being less than £180 if it retails for £250 (this is just guesswork on my part). I looked elsewhere and bought it for £125, which is likely to work out cheaper than any crossgrade offer...

You could always ask Jens to pick you up a copy from his local bargain basement and send it to you ;)

You can get it through ebay from dolphin music for £99, they will post anywhere in europe.

Yeah, I saw that before I purchased my other copy...call me paranoid, but I am not sure I trust any company that sets up it's online shop on Ebay. I can't explain why, it just seems that if it were a 'proper' company then it would have it's own website...

They have there own website aswell, been trading since 1999 it says, their ebay feedback was very good anyway so Id go off that alone personally. It cost £129 on their own website so its cheaper buying it off them through ebay for £99.

Thanks for the advice on buying options. 8) I think I'll wait until it's released, try the demo and read the feedback and reviews before I buy. It does look enticing but even £99 is a lot of money for a host I might not get into. If the price goes up for awhile I'm sure it'll come down at some point and maybe there will be a crossgrade offer for Sonar users in the future.

My credit card is still itching though...

Yes, that would be Cubase! :hihi:

How do you find this dolphin shop on ebay? I don't know where to look. FOund their proper website but no links to ebay I could see.

I just bought for $175, with no tax or shipping. All I saw on Ebay was what looked like an individual selling it, though it was new in the box. The form to upgrade for free specifies that the older version must come from a retailer, and you must send the receipt. So, I decided to pay a little more than some people have been getting them for...

You can still get it for $175 from audiomidi.com, and novamusik (they should have 1 copy left, maybe) matched that price.

(obviously this is only relevant for U.S. buyers...)

I just looked myself and couldn't find it, but I do remember that the P5 offer only had around 3 more days to run and this was last week, so I am guessing that the offer is gone (plus their main site is showing that they have none in stock).

Having had a quick look around the other sites I checked when I was looking to buy it, it seems that most of them have no stock left...and the only ones that might have are asking £150.

dolphinmusic.co.uk are selling a project 5/sonar 3 bundle for 200 quid, which obviously isn't as good as the edirol offer, but that's doesn't exist any more...

Don't blame you for being paranoid. Some companies, maybe not this one, maintain both an ebay store and their own website for more exposure (I think). Check out altomusic.com where they have a tab at the top right to their ebay store. I bought a KARMA keyboard from an auction they had a couple of years ago for ~1350. If it had been used, I couldn't tell. It's still going strong. I also bought the MOSS board for the KARMA from someone else who also had both an ebay store and a "regular" store. I always do a google search to see what I can find.

Anyway, stay paranoid, because you can't be too cautious.

I'd hope that people would see the potential of P5v2 *with* Reason, rather than comparing.

Not to encourage any software studio wars, but I dont think people would be looking to buy both if they dont own one already. They are very much in competition with each other. There will be VS wars between these big time.

Being a Reason 3 owner I totally Disagree .....
This could tempt me away from LIVE with features like Track freeze and if it's better optimised CPU wise.
The midi looks like it isn't an afterthought either and the shifting of cells to linear arrange etc seems more logical - not to mention with LIVE you get Impulse / Simpler (and Operator if you're willing to shell out $150USD) + the inbuilt effects.
This comes with a great sampler.
Psyn 2 is partly designed on Zeta.
Drum samplers with a substantial library.
Mult time sig / multi meter and polymeter support.
Excellent MIDI EDITING TOOLS ....
ReWIRE & IT NOW RECORDS AUDIO also.
This + a few R3 Combinators would be a pretty awesome set up IMHO .

Well that's good :) I can't really explain why but I just instinctively had doubts about buying from there, so it was worth the extra £25 just for peace of mind.

OK - found a copy of V1 to buy for £129 in UK Can anyone confirm I definately would qualify for a free upgrade to V2 if I bought it now? If so I will - looks totally awesome - worth it just for Dimension even. The first version was crap but this is a different beast entirely. I was going to upgrade to T2 but I might not need to now unless it's cheap enough (they kind of missed the boat a bit there).
