Anyone got it or seen it? The second disc is full of interviews etc. It seems that FuturePerfect was all done in Logic 5.5 with its instruments and Reaktor. He kind of goes through the process without actually telling you too much but its still kind fo cool that he's proud of the fact.
As an interesting aside, apparantly they were recently caught-out with a "guide" vocal on their live backing tape.[/b]

Burning Empires sounds beefy.
Futureperfect sounds weedy.
Matter and Form sounds beefy.

Discuss.

interesting, though I must admit I've never liked VNV Nation.

regarding the use of software, another similar band you must know, Assemblage 23, mentions among their list of used equipment, reaktor, albino AND CM-101, one of the synths from Computer Music!!

In an interview on the NI site Ronan Harris also mentions using reFX's PlastiCZ and Juno X2. He also speaks highly of Ninja.

well they used hardware on the Burning Empires and Matter and Form and I guess they didn't use VazMod on Future Perfect ;)

VNV is one of the bands I hate to love. Call it my guilty pleasure I guess.

About the dvd, it would have been interesting if they went into a bit more detail then they did. But just goes to show that it doesn't matter what you use, just how you use it.

Well everything else is on backing tape, why not some guide vocals ;) I am really not at all suprised by that. Sucks but isn't suprising.

Too bad their music sucks ass.

Post

Actually their music is just plain mediocre... their vocals however REALLY suck ass.

I only liked Praise the Fallen. It had an edge to it that is missing from their other stuff. Empires was krap and I haven't even listened to FurturePerfect. As for the backing DVD [which he mentions a couple of times], what scares me is that its become so accepted. We make an audio CD as a failsafe in case we have a catastrophic mishap on stage but all our sound is generated live from our PC or hardware. Even KMFDM just have audio tracks loaded in ProTools which I don't see as much different from a backing tape, in that it will sound exactly the same night after night.
Mind you, KMFDM had played exactly the same set for almost 100 gigs on their world tour, which I also think is bollocks. OTOH, I saw a Robert Smith interview where he said the Cure had rehearsed over 100 songs for a tour so that whenever they played two shows in the same city, they could play completely different sets each night and if fans were following them around they would't have to listen to the same songs night after night. That, to my mind, is professionalism.

actually, the guys in my old band met assemblage when they played an ebm festival in canada some time ago. at that time, they were all about the hardware synths and reaktor, or so my friend says but he isn't the most trustworthy guy around. i also have to say, they really blow goats live. too bad, because And One and Beborn really rocked pretty hard the night before. oh, and VNV sucks donkeys live unless you like watching kareoke.

Yeah, I couldn't sit through the concert DVD in one session. Although they do actually play synths in the last track. The really sad bit is that he justified teh "guide" vocal track by saying how exhausting it is poncing around like a goose on stage.

two words - britney spears

i was quite shocked when i saw Laibach because everything came from tape, including all vocals. i think they didn't even use a different mix than the album versions.
i don't understand how anyone can perform that way.

i was reading, i think it was, electronic musician mag's interview of BT and he revealed using RotoPuker synthedit synth!! so im not suprised that assemblage uses cm synths.

:)
be part of the solution, not the problem

bt sometimes massages the truth a little in his interviews i think (though i could never prove it)

Here's what really annoyed me about the live DVD. I preordered the so-called special edition, so I got it right when it came out. There was a link on the second DVD to some bonus online content. The link didn't work for a couple of weeks after I had the DVD. When it finally did work, all it said was some nonsense about not releasing the online content until the DVD was available in all markets. As of my last look (perhaps 3 months ago), there was still no bonus online content available! :x Thanks for nothing...

I think the real gem of the DVD is the hidden track with VNV and Assemblage 23 doing a duet. Its hilarious, in a pathetic sort of way...
Incomplete list of my gear: 1/8" audio input jack.
