As for Cannibal Corpse, I always thought of them as silly fun. I still occasionaly enjoy The Bleeding. No great talent there, but still can be fun on occasion. If you want full on hyperspeed talent-free gurgling, try Disgorge. Fun stuff. I guess there'es no accounting for taste. For example, I'd take the low pitched death growling (or the black metal screaming) over the "hardcore" yelling style that bands like Hatebreed do. Dunno why, just a matter of personal taste.
Some of the more talented bands:
Death
Atheist
Morbid Angel
Opeth
Neurosis
Carcass
and I know I'm WAY in the minority here, but I think
Mayhem's Grand Declaration of War was f**king fantastic.

Speaking of Cannibal Corpse, does anyone know what they put on that guys vocals to make them sound like that? If his voice was really that low, wouldn't that create mic'ing difficullties in a live setting?
Just curious.

Chris Barnes, or George Fisher?herodotus wrote:Speaking of Cannibal Corpse, does anyone know what they put on that guys vocals to make them sound like that? If his voice was really that low, wouldn't that create mic'ing difficullties in a live setting?

Cannibal Corpse had two singers, you know. George took over growling duty from Chris after The Bleeding.
Either way, I'm pretty sure they didn't use any pitchshifting. I know that the very early Carcass did, but AFAIK, that's just how it comes out of Chris (or George's) mouth...
I don't know what (if anything) Disgorge does to their vocals, but that's just about as inhuman sounding as you can go. Check out the song Deranged Epidemic.

People like to label bands like Cannibal Corpse and Anaal Nathrahk (two of my favourite death metal groups) as being untalented pieces of shit.
But they don't understand how hard it is to make those ungodly noises and pull them off effectively so you don't sound like a little piss-ant.

Amen to that. Gore-metal isn't deep stuff, it's fun goddammit! It's like people making some sort of critical analysis of a Troma film...Acolmiztli wrote:People like to label bands like Cannibal Corpse and Anaal Nathrahk (two of my favorite death metal groups) as being untalented pieces of shit.

I see death-metal as the "metalheads" Britney Spears. You don't take it seriously, and you acknowledge that its crap compared to other stuff, but godamnit, its a giggle!!

How the hell would I be able to pretend that Dying Fetus is singing the lyrics to "I've Got a Brand New Pair of Rollerskates" if he was intelligible?

Oh, come on, now...you know what I meant..One had to be an initiate in those things to understand what they were saying, the average(and better off) individual just heard a bunch of grunts & belches..Voidoid Surrealist wrote:Well where's the fun in that?Sicklecell666 wrote: you could understand the f**ker...

I went to a metal festival where Dimmu was headlining. Yes, cheesy as f**k-all, but an absolutely awesome band.Rune wrote:And please let me add another band to the list: Anal Blast/Anal c**t (I believe the two are the same band, but I might be wrong) I mean... no, I'm speechless. The tune 'Smell Your c**t' with Anal Blast is pure art. Really!
And seriously. Cheezy metal? Hey, I'm from heathen Norway after all! Dimmu Borgir anyone?
Standing up in front of thousands of people and gargling, "We are the black hearted angels fallen from grace" in order to introduce your band... I mean, the better part of the audience was laughing their asses off, but when they let into "In Death's Embrace" there wasn't a single person who wasn't going nuts.
Actually, I've seen a good number of the bands mentioned here live. Ah, the wonders of having parents who just don't give a f**k where you're going, who you'll be with, or when you'll be back!

I only liked their covers. I bought one of their CD's for like $4 used because the cover was too cool. I also had it signed by the band when they came through town one time. Don't like the music at all.Sicklecell666 wrote:I should clarify:Lawnmower Of The Damned wrote:I never cared for Cannibal actually.
When I first heard Cannibal Corpse I knew my intrest in that scene was living on borrowed time if not already finished..
