Morgoth had one of the best demos around..Lawnmower Of The Damned wrote:Still not as bad as Morgoth's "Feel Sorry For The Fanatic" 9 years ago, which was a f**king travesty commited by one of the greatest technical metal bands of all time.
From my collection back then of best bands demo tapes:
Amon/Deicide - best demo ever
Therion - Close second
Morgoth - f**king great demo
Nihilist/Entombed - this was so perfect I don't think they even re-recorded for the Left hand path LP..
It was kinda weird just how good these demo tapes were..They ALL blew away the LP releases, especially Deicide, & Therion..the Therion demo was
And that's mostly leaving out f**king Scott Burns & his pancake flat double bass mixing that f**king ruined Death Metal..

While the nostalgia's flowing..
*begin time warp*
1989 at a Carcass show down in South Beach, Miami..I'm hanging out with Bill Steer talking shit about Napalm Death (
) and the dj plays a song called 'We die young' from some unknown band called Alice in Chains..I was f**king blown away..
Forget Cannibal Corpse, THAT was the moment when I questioned my faith in deathmetal..
*end twimewarp*
RIP, Layne..

Man, I used to listen to AiC all the time! I should put on Facelift tonight...Sicklecell666 wrote:While the nostalgia's flowing..

I always found it depressing that truly great bands like AiC ended up "inspiring" so many truly shitty bands today. Just look at Godsmack. I remember when they first came out, it was like hearing a really crappy version of AiC. And all the DJs were calling them "The Next AiC!". f**king travesty.
I wonder how much longer until something cool comes out of mainstream radio again?
I love the Crumbsuckers (Best crossover band I've heard, didn't they eventualy turn into Pro-Pain?), and Ludichrist, but didn't The Sane Asylum come out AFTER Possesed split up? So I think it would be "great post-Possesed Lalonde"...

AiC were quite an ace band. Saw the Oxes live at the vine and they encoured with a cover of "them bones" (as an instrumental, natch).
Dont think many people there realised it was a cover!!
anyway, bad metal
Is this love? - whitesnake. aaaaaaaaargh run away now!!!

Why do people keep calling bands like Whitesnake metal? I don't get it.Bunnyboy wrote:AiC were quite an ace band. Saw the Oxes live at the vine and they encoured with a cover of "them bones" (as an instrumental, natch).

Loved the music of Vio-Lence (didn't they do a hyphen thingy?) but the vocalist was poo.Sicklecell666 wrote: When I think of good thrash I think of bands like Violence & Voivod..

I do. They had a few releases, which all were good... but can't say I remember any of it anymore.MikeLeuz wrote:Speaking of forgotten about bands, anyone remember Laaz Rockit - Annihilation Principle? Could definitely be interpreted as cheesy, but a killer album imnsho.

Recent Slayer as least was better than God Hates Us All, which I thought was a pile of doo. The new stuff has almost the same riffs from older releases. Disappointing, but at least it's 'Slayer', not doo.Voidoid Surrealist wrote: Well, rarely.
I'd say that Cradle of Filth, recent Slayer, and Tristania are all "decent".
But yeah, I know what you mean![]()

Ahhh Pro-Pain... Need to go dig up their Shread Of Dignity CD. One of the best metal CD's I had heard in years when I heard it in 2002 upon release.Voidoid Surrealist wrote:I love the Crumbsuckers (Best crossover band I've heard, didn't they eventualy turn into Pro-Pain?),

As far as I was aware, the tracks on Sane Asylum were written by the main guy in the late 70's and recorded before Possesed were around..something like 82 or 83..Voidoid Surrealist wrote:didn't The Sane Asylum come out AFTER Possesed split up? So I think it would be "great post-Possesed Lalonde"...
@Devon - Yeah, Vio-lence..singer was a hard sell, but I got used to him cause the music was so damned good. 'Calling in the Coroner' is still one of my fav metal songs to date
Pro-Pain..sounds familiar, don't remember getting to hear it
Twas all quite brillag..

I think the best 'metal' right now is all the ultra-slow dirge stuff - Khanate, Corrupted, Buried at Sea, Whitehorse...
I like that Mayhem record too though. My fave black metal band right now is probably Xasthur - the stuff is both noisy and really pretty, like Mayhem and My Bloody Valentine at the bottom of a deep well.
But the main problem I have with the stuff is, at the end of the day, it's still just rock music with guitars and drums and stuff, and so it always stays conservative at its core. So for heavy stuff I prefer the total nihilistic noise blast of folks like Merzbow, New Blockaders, The Haters, etc.
