This whole business around Metro is all news to me. I was not aware of CW's involvement in that at all. Thanks for the information.

Interesting. Thanks. And it wasn't even that long ago.

No it wasn't. I just remember reading something about it in a music mag a few years back (probably Computer Music) and the impression I got was that it was longer ago than it actually was. Still, 6 years is a long time in this industry and I do have a penchant for hyperboleSepheritoh wrote:Interesting. Thanks. And it wasn't even that long ago.

That's fine. Although I addressed my reply to you, it was more just a general response to something I see mentioned on these forums a lot regarding the wrapper. I have had some issues with it, but no more so than I have had issues with plugins under other hosts...it just seems that Cakewalk are hassled more due to it being a visible wrapper, rather than an inbuilt wrapper like other hosts use...braj wrote:I've used Sonar 3 and 4, own Metro for Mac (kind of withering on the vine these days), and don't have a negative view of Cakewalk at all. I had some crashes when using VSTs so that's why I think the wrapper is buggy.

I'm not sure if I should tell it at all
- I don't want to make you go green with envy and besides I'm not sure if the edirol guys are cool with it...
went to the shop today to buy P5 V1 - it was supposed to cost 129€ - so I said: 'hi, I'd like to have P5' - 'P5 for the special-offer price? - no problem - please go down the street to our second hand shop and pay your 55€ there' - 'no - I need it new!' - 'it is new!' - 'is it completely unregistered?' 'yes! - you need to be the lucky one at least once in your life - we just don't manage to sell them otherwise - no-one wants to have it. But we even make a loss at selling them at this price!'

I think I should buy Filterscape from the money I saved today...

Jens: Well I guess someone should be lucky with Edirol for a change!
I ordered P5 from the Edirol UK at the weekend for £99, only to receive an email on the Monday telling me they had no stock left and weren't getting any more. Why they couldn't be arsed to keep their site up to date is anyone's guess, as is why they are STILL advertising this offer on their site...
Anyway, I ended up purchasing it elsewhere for £125 (if these idiots ever bother to send me that one...still waiting 3 days later). I could have held off for the release of v2, as the Edirol email promised a discount for Sonar owners, but I don't trust them very much and it would probably have turned out to be something like £20 off.
Anyway, enjoy your good fortune...I am not at all envious

From Cakewalk site;braj wrote:Too bad it isn't cross-platform or I'd really consider it. I wonder how it'll be resource wise. And of course it probably doesn't do VST without the buggy wrapper, right?
Open Host Environment
Expand with DirectX, DXi, MFX, VST, VSTi Support
You can expand Project5 with hundreds of available virtual instruments, and audio and MIDI effects.
Does that mean it doesn't need the wrapper??

Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Hey again!braj wrote: And of course it probably doesn't do VST without the buggy wrapper, right? Looks sweet though. I'm sure it will be killer.
From what I've heard, the cakewalk wrapper is - these days at least - less buggy than the native VST support in some hosts (I'm thinking Live 4

if CW's vst wrapper does not work, there is an alternative

it's been pretty well established that one or the other will work on 99.95% of vsti

Regarding P5 plus Tracktion, I'm looking at the Cakewalk range in more detail at present.
In other words, I'm considering:
Sonar 4 instead of Tracktion
... plus P5 (possibly even instead of Live 4, but probably in addition, because I've come around to absolutely loving Live 4 now, and I'm throwing tracks together in it on an almost daily basis
)
There are three reasons I am considering migrating to Sonar after being one of Tracktions loud advocates here at KVR:
1. My new M-Audio Ozonic controller simply doesn't work in T2. Despite seeking help on the RMS and Mackie forums, emailing all the right people, etc, I've got nowhere. As a result, T1 works on my system and T2 doesn't. I can't even play in MIDI notes using the keyboard. So paying to upgrade is clearly out of the question for now.
2. The big price rise for Tracktion puts it outside the likely spend of my students, while Cakewalk have now announced that Sonar LE will bundle with Edirol interfaces/controllers, which could be much better value for my music tech students who want to get set up at home
3. The Tracktion forum has now been overtaken by threads requesting features which Sonar already has, which kind of says a lot, don't you think?!
I'll be very sad to leave behind Tracktion, but perhaps I just need to admit to myself that it's time to move on to a more substantial and established program.

Also keep in mind that MOST applications "wrap" any instrument that is inserted into them- FL studio, Orion, Acid, etc etc. They just do it without it becoming obvious. I kind of agree that sonar should "hide" the process of wrapping, but it works great for every plugin I have so I cant be arsed to care that much.stoney wrote:From Cakewalk site;braj wrote:Too bad it isn't cross-platform or I'd really consider it. When people discuss the wrapper there is a negative connotation associated with it. But keep in mind, that since the wrapper is external to the software, problems can be updated/released more quickly than an app patch, and it is a smaller download. Cakewalk has been very good at responding to plugins that do not work in the adapter, and the latest version(4.43 or 4.44- cant remember) is very solid
