Im curious; anyone used one in conjunction with a Variax?
An idiot on Set Theory:

Another 'bower here. i've used it on an acoustic live many times. i have to 'bows plus and e-bow plus with cool blue LED.
As to Variax, although it does work, because there are no pickups you can't 'dig' into the pick-ups or vary the volume/timbre by moving over the 'sweet spot', which is where you get the most expression.
There's a guy called Micheal Manring (i think) who did an album with e-bow on bass. Me? i started because of Bill Nelson - the e-bow overlord.

Why is it so expensive?

I can't find my ebow. And now I feel sad
I loved it.

Because the copyright and the patent.cptgone wrote:Why is it so expensive?
Anyway you can try other stuff as experiment: a electric engine (I use one of LEGOs bricks game!) that relase electrical noises close to strings, a rotant wheel made of cotton, a drum stick picked over the strings, a computer monitor CRT, the new Gillette Mach 3 Power razor with "vibra" (yes, the David Beckeam ones
It's funny to experiment

, etc.

anyone remember "the gizmo" invented by two guys from 10cc, i think the non-godley/creme guys, could be wrong, they put out an album to demo the unit(never heard it), it mounted near the bridge, used nylon wheels you pressed onto the strings with buttons.
i bought an ebow for about 60-70 bucks awhile back, about the same price as a good pedal, the chrome one was more- the most famous song for ebow is i believe "since your gone" by the cars, elliot easton tried to claim in an interview he just cranked a les paul thru a marshall but later admitted it, everyone knew anyway...

Spookily, right after posting my "I've lost my ebow" comment above, my old flatmate emailed to say he'd had a clearout and found some of my stuff...including...my ebow!
Joy again...

But I don't see any use for it in a studio set up.
If I want synth or horn sounds I have plenty of it , I don't need the guitar for this.
anyways............
My e-bow works great with my Acoustic. Go for it
Trojan Badger - congratulations

PS - if you wish to hear an E-Bow in action doing something that a synth or horn vsti couldn't, go into the Music Cafe thread and listen to my track "Discussion" from May 2004.

It was definitely Godley/Creme who invented it, it’s all over the “Consequences” triple album (man, what a piece of work that was
