Would you care to rephrase that? :)
erm ... but doesnt walk the walk ???

I still don't follow :) did you exchange the whole first sentence with "but doesn't walk the walk" ?:)
sorry ... being oblique and forgetting not everyone is a native english speaker ...

... theres an english saying 'he talks a good fight ...' from the sport of boxing (i think) meaning a fighter who knows all the jargon and has the plans but doesnt have the muscle to actually win the bout ...

... so what i meant was for MY needs podium looks good at first and has all the features but for ME it never quite backs those up in practise ...

Stefan,

Jag försöka att förklara, men min svensk är självlärde och troligt att göra någon fel med min förklaring.:

"To talk the talk, but not walk the walk" är en språkegenhet att mena:

Jag hävda att jag kann göra någon bra, men i realiteten jag kann bara göra det en lite bättre an en småbarn. O, jag förekunna att folk skulle göra någon, men jag själv göra det inte.

Jag tro att pHz mena att podium verkar en kraftig software, men för honom, podium är inte så kraftig.

Men det här är bara min gissa.

Hoppas att min svensk är inte för klumpig!!!

One thing that originally attracted me to Tracktion was the support of the developer. This is a key feature for Podium, so it will be interesting to what happens when T2 is released.

I would imagine any small company (one man band) would go the same way as Tracktion if they were brought by a big company.

+ve dependable future (?!)

Tracktion and Podium are both superb hosts.

Both have
64 bit mixing options.

Automation
Podium seems to have the edge for me in this area.

Ease of use
Tracktion initially, but it does not take that long to get comfortable with Podium.

Audio engine
Talking gaps here not sound quality...Tracktion's audio engine gaps less than even Sonar4, although the soon to be released S4 - 4.0.3 update might eliminate even that as it appears to be the main focus of the update.

However I was astounded when I tried the Podium demo and threw everything at it and the audio engine would not gap!The only host I know that does that is Live 4! I was using Vsampler in real time in Podium this was problematic at times in Sonar.
Podium achieves this even with PDC. Remarkable.

Cost
T2 is probably better value for money as the Mackie plugs look really good and throw in RMIV and you get the picture £100 is a bargain.

Podium is about £60 - £75 but is a classy host it just does not ship with any native plugs but then with so many freebies its not too big deal for me.

Drag and drop
I love the way you can just drag an instrument onto the arrange page in Podium and it creates the track for you.I must say though I could not drag a midi file from Sylus RMX into a track in Podium but it was easy in Tracktion, small deal really as the real time bounce of Podium is great.

Tracktion has a nice way of managing plugs with a simple drag and drop process.

Support
Superb with both hosts. Jules always got back to me on the same day or even hour! Fritz is all over the Podium forum! :o

Stability
Podium seems rock solid...full stop.
I have had hardly any crashes in Tracktion.

Rewire
Not yet available in Podium which is probably one of the biggest stumbling block to people looking for a new host.Imagine the scene...you own Reason or Project 5 with months of work and projects already done in these hosts and you have to bounce everything out instead of using the rewire apps in Podium.

I suppose a simple export after completing a project in a rewire app will solve this *track by track* but at least Fritz has rewire on his list.

Graphics
Podiums pulsing meters are a brilliant idea. :) The whole look is very classy indeed.
Tracktions new colour schemes look brilliant and really add to look and feel of it in a positive way. :D

Video
Tracktion2 yes Podium no.

Summary
They are both great hosts...it simply depends on your style of working I guess.

I've tried using energyXT as a sequencer, and whilst it is a great program :D , I'm finding some activities which ought to be easy, hard to deal with (e.g. automating pan and level). :?

I've seen Podium mentioned several times recently. Can anyone tell me how it compares with Tracktion?

Thanks

From an audio recording mostly point of view....

Podium does not have envelopes/fadeinout

Podium has no way of looping a clip more than once, at least tracktion has a "loop this clip" and then how many times you want

No rewire

Rendering is a process that requires allot of time, as opposed to the super easy/versitle/fast method in tracktion.

BUT, I still love it. For one thing, it sounds better......I have always heard a dullish sound in tracktion (especially bass guitar) and podium is just CRISP. Plus, dealing with zyneware is great.........the dude is super cool. And it's always a pleasure to deal with "smaller" companies that have your interest at the top of the list.

Mackie on the otherhand, has been jerking us off for about 3 months over this T2 thing..........it's a nightmare.

Oh, both are so bug-free..........I just don't ever get crashes and freezes like sonar or cubase.

anyways..........try both...............you can get the t2 demo now and give them a run side by side.......
