Except for a Beatles hommage track* :hihi:

To add: bvgs are not used only for harmonizing the main vocal, you could do a counter melody with them.

* even they never used consecutive fourths or fifths, though. just one here or there (was considered unusual at the time but it worked)

Having thirds or fifths below or above main singing line help. But not too much, sometimes even three voice harmonies sound ridiculous in some songs. Another thing is to sing song harmony against the melody, for example if the singer is singing E-F-D-whatever over a C chord, backup sings C-C-C, E-E-E and so on.

And of course there is the pentatonic harmonising, C major song, the singer goes E-D-C, and backup goes C-A-G.

Thanks for backing me up Finbarr (ooeer)

It might be easier for you to write the harmony line on your prefered instrument - playing along to the lead line -an instrument where you can 'see' the scale of the key you're playing in, piano/keyboard is the obvious choice, but some people understand the guitar better. Regardless of your choice, if you stick to a 'major/minor third up/down' type rule you'll end up sounding oriental and strange - stick to the notes of the song key and you can't go too wrong..

If you're beginning to understand this kind of stuff you could start here

though you might need to do an awkward bit of cutting and pasting

does vocalign project work exclusively on protools? or is there a vst or dX version? any url?

it's not a VST effect. it's a standalone product which can be integrated with the Windows Clipboard - CoolEdit and AdobeAudition have multiple clipboards which make using it a little easier. I'm not a PT user but it looks like VocAlign fully integrates into it.
