For a second, I thought he said "you know Cakewalk to make great DOS software... Sonar..."

Yeah, your not alone, that is what I thought at first too.OzoneJunkie wrote:For a second, I thought he said "you know Cakewalk to make great DOS software... Sonar..."

I really like the new Groove Matrix (ala Live's Session View) as well as the new advanced appeggiator and the Dimension samp/synth looks and sounds great too. The new streamilined user interface is a big improvement and is easy on the eyes.

Sure seems like they "borrowed" a lot of ideas from Ableton Live.

The Groove Matrix is a total bite on Live and the new channel presets sound like a bite on Logic 7 but having all these features in one inexpensive package that runs on PC hardware is pretty damn appealing.JohnVulich wrote:Sure seems like they "borrowed" a lot of ideas from Ableton Live.
Lets hope all the DAW makers continue to focus on improving each others' ideas instead of patenting and suing.

Pretty silly tit-for-tat comment there dude! Copying a name verus a whole interface is a bit different.ZuN wrote:Yeah and Live bit P5 with the name Impulse on their instrument
I should probably be clear that I'm not really trying to be critical of Cakewalk's move, in this regard, as Ableton is my current favorite host to work in. The initial version of P5 was, IMO, pretty crappy so I look forward to testing out the new version.

Yes. I really like the idea of working with audio/MIDI loops on the fly. It's a great approach to sequencing.ZuN wrote:it doesn't really matter as long as Companys keep improving upon stuff, for us the users.
I'm currently in a band with a bunch of guys who wanna play jam/improv oriented Ozric Tentacles/Djam Karet inspired Prog Rock. Trying to get some of these guys to accept sequencing is a bit much for them but after showing them Live they really warmed up to the capability of improving with sequences. Subsequently I enjoy seeing these types of features being implemented in other apps

Yeah you know im sure when Abelton releases its next version of live it may be able to record audio Like P5 v2 but maybe enhance it to something really cool, as long as they keep building up its all that matters. I really don't care that This feature was already in this other package.

Live has recorded audio since version 1
thanks for the tip, cant wait for P5, I think they'll make the best combo live and p5, i only wish they'd make p5 for the mac also as I'd like to have one of those too.
