New technologies such as phase alignment (“sonic morphing”) processing, allowing for realtime crossfades across several dynamic layers with no phase artifacts, convolution with algorithmically-derived instrument body modal resonance IR, yielding continuously variable vibrato intensity & rate, and “intelligent” midi processor, effecting automatic real-time legato & portamento, have been applied for the first time to a sample-based instrument, with the aim of getting the expressiveness of physical modeling while maintaining the timbrical characteristics of the original instrument.

The first instrument based on these principles, The Stradivari Violin, created by an Italian team in collaboration with Gary Garritan, was presented last week at the Frankfurt Musikmesse. The reaction of partecipants to live demonstrations was enthusiastic, and many experts reported this approach as the likely standard for the next generation of sample-based instruments.

In addition to the garritan.com link, you may wish to check the northernsounds forum at http://www.northernsounds.com/forum/for ... y.php?f=21.
Some additional information on the Stradivari may be found by performing a search with the keywords "Stradivari" and "Giorgio". Please contact me for further specific questions.
