you need to get as much volume in your mix before finilazing. A compressor with lowish ratio on every track doesn't hurt. Add a nice compressor (best is something like Vintage Warmer

agood start would be..

ah see, I only really use compression on my drums (and bass sometimes).
The way I work (here comes that long dull story) is that I sketch stuff in Cubarse (here's where I compress drums etc), bounce to wav and build my track in Acid (I find it gives me much more flexibility in terms of track structure etc.). Once I've got a complete track, I bounce to wav and master in my wave editor (where Ozone comes into action). Then convert to mp3 and away we go.

CypherOne wrote:well I use blockfish on my drums generally. The breakbeat in this track was me going overboard with it after hearing some awesome compressed drums on an album recently and trying to achieve the same thing.
I don't use much else partly because of the way I work (long dull story...)
I don't use much effects either, apart from delay for special effects, and some verb and eq for placement
compression however is something I've only quite recently mastered and it makes all the difference
I usually compress certain tracks multiple times (drums, leads), each time just a little bit

oh yeah I use EQ a lot, usually at the Acid stage where the soundstage is starting to get more full. I use delays and verbs too, but quite sparingly.
Yeah I'm only just starting to get to grips with compression, that's why I'm using blockfish heavily at the moment - easy to use, not many parameters etc.

that looks like a perfectly good way to make a track
so it's just a matter of mastering the ol' compressor and making your tracks loud enough before importing into acid, but without forcing them or pushing them. If your drums can handle more volume for instance, then why now give them more volume, you can always take it down later in acid (or on acid

George Yohng's W1 Limiter is free and superb - it's also the guts of the Betabugs limiter. Get it! I also tried the TLS Maximizer but find that a bit of a tricky one to get right, sometimes it seems to distort slightlyspaceman wrote:agood start would be..

Aaaaaaaaaaanyway, nice track cypher, very cypher indeed, which is good, I wanted it to jump to another level but instead it just ended
Minimonsta hey? I tried it out at the messe but all it did was crackle for some reason, and the Maudio techs were too busy chatting to each other to sort anyone out, but sounds good here.
Nice one

cheers Jim. yeah the monsta is exactly that. just auditioning some of the presets (alone) can max out my cpu and cause crackles. Damn fine sound though and it doesn't affect me really because of the way I approach my trackbuilding (see previous posts).
I stated on the first post that I was stuck on a melody so I know what you mean! Also, re the length (ooer) I kinda wanted to go up a gear but then realised that would make it >8min territory and given my crisis of confidence, I didn't wanna do that in case the track was actually total arse...
thanks for listening.

I guess so but vintage warmer really is.. erm warmer. It's hard to explain, you just get more difinition, more oomph, more buzz, more.. well err.. warmthCypherOne wrote:could I not use Ozone instead of VW?

Late to the party I guess, just found this.
Not read the thread yet but loving this!
Great intro and gooves along nicely.
Good beats as usual. I did see vurt's comparison to Eat Static - I can definitely see that.
Nicely done sir.
