I'm curious, the Roland Groovesynth in Project5 v2 - is that a VSTi or DXi?

I assume this is the same synth in Kinetic. Though, I couldn't tell from any literature whether you'd have to Rewire to P5 to use it, or if you could use it directly in something like Sonar.

Thanks,
Brian

..you can use it as a dxi plugin..but if it´s the same version like in kinetic ...it will also sound thin and crappy...:x ...even my old mc303 sounded better... :)

..but who will need it if you get "Dimension"...

I use the Groove Synth in Sonar. It has prefectly good sounds in my view with over 400 instrument patches.

Clearly not a replacement for Trilogy or Atmosphere but fine for making music.

But yes Dimension is the *Main Event*.

Edit: just to add..Groovesynth is surely a DXi. VSTi...dont think so.

Some of the groovesynth patches are a bit brittle, some are perfectly useful.

When Kinetic first came out, the GrooveSynth was limited to working in either that or P5. They released a patch to allow it to work in Sonar as well. I don't know if there are going to be similar restrictions, but if it is to be a standard-format plugin, it will be a DXi and not a VSTi.
Even if the piano player can't play, keep the party going.

Huh!.......what kind of audio card and monitoring system were you using. Hopefully, not a cheap crappy SB card and computer speakers :)
I'll tell you what, to my ears the Roland GrooveSynth patches are the real deal. That is one of the first things I checked, before I bought Kinetic, which I bought primarily for the Roland GrooveSynth plugin. Kinetic was worth the $79.00 bucks I paid for it, just for GrooveSynth plugin (which btw, being a Cake product, you can also use in SONAR, as a DXi :D ). I did a patch to patch comparison with my Roland JX-305 GrooveSynth MIDI controller keyboard, which is the real deal. In case you don't know what it is, think of a MC909, with a keyboard. :P The patches triggered from the GrooveSynth plugin, and played through, my Delta 66 24/96 audio card and JBL 4313 monitoring system were virtually indistinguisable, from like patches coming out of my JX-305 GrooveSynth.

It's a great plugin, IMO, but it is DXi only. For P5 2.0 users, having the GrooveSynth plugin included, is a nice bonus, and makes the P5 2.0 update, even more attractive.

It's annoying that GrooveSynth is locked to Kinetic, P5, & Sonar. I have other DXI-capable sequencers (including a copy of CAKEWALK Home Studio, and FLS) that it won't play in.

I wonder if Dimension is likewise crippled? I love my Sonar, but I also like my FLS...

Edit: according to this, Dimension is not locked. Maybe they'll loose the GrooveSynth, too?

...the problem for me is i´m spoiled by the soundquality of Plugsound Drums & Synths so i had no more use for my mc303 and my D2 (which has the same soundengine like MC505 & JX305) and sold it...so i also have no use for Groovesynth ...but it´s free anyway, so i don´t mind...:P

Hey, that's cool...we all have our fav softsynths :) At least, with P5 2.0's VSTi/DXi compatibility you are not tied to Cake's own softsynth/samplers, even though some of them, are quite good. So I take it, your getting P5 2.0 then?

I remember wanting the mc909 really bad when it came out, but I couldn't afford it (I got the Rave-O-Lution 309 instead). I think the Groovesynth looks very interesting, as does P5 v.2. I'm kinda looking for a softstudio, and it looks very nice with the acid loop support, plus I liked the midi editor from the v1 demo.

Shame about the price (can't even afford v1 nowadays).
