Hey everyone,
I can't get any sound when I import a midi file into fl5. I have microsoft gs wavetable sw synth selected in 'output port mapping', and I have the same selected for 'master sync output'. I do not have a kybd attached, but I figure that shouldn't make a difference since I get midi sound in other programs that I also use without a midi kybd. I have 'generic controller' selected in 'controller type', & 'none' for 'remote controller input'. I have tried every combination and still can't get midi sound in fl though I get sound in other programs. What am I doing wrong? Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

Hi,
Works ok here. Import midi file > select fruity LSD as fx on master channel > match ports on LSD and each midi channel, that's it.

Stayed up all night and finally figured out the port-matching thing. Thanks for the response. But now I have a new problem. Whenever I try to use a plug-in sound in place of a midi sound the 2 R out of synch. This also happens in Sonar when I use VSTIs to replace midi tracks. The FL patches & samples sound better than the midi ones, but the substitution isn't working out since they're out of synch: the plug-in sound is ahead of the beat. Quantizing & shifting right/left doesn't work. Can you help with this one? Thanks again

Hi,
This is the way I do it (don't use midi files very often so there may be a better way) I replace each midi file channel with a vsti so there's no sync problems.
Load a midi file in FLS > load a vsti > copy the note data from the midi channel piano roll > paste in the vsti piano roll > delete the midi file channel if you want/need to. Do this with each midi file channel, eg > drums, bass, guitar, piano, etc, etc, to a vsti.

Hope this makes sense, I'm rushing about trying to finish off some decorating.

'EDIT'
I've just tried a midi file, played back with a mixture of vsti's and FLS LSD with no sync problems. This is using Asio drivers on a Audiophile 2496 card.

Make sure you dont have the "MIDI" channel muted in the windows mixer. I almost pulled my hair out of desperation, until I figured I had it muted, and of course, anything that uses the soundsets on your card will me muted. Just a small suggestion. Hope it helps.

Thanks again, Ian B. Swapping out all the midi channels for vst channels works, though it's a hell of a lot of work if you have many midi channels. I've also tried using asio drivers with an HP VIA Audio card, and it doesn't work with the mixture of midi & vsti. I guess I'll have to do it the hard way.

Kode_poet: I've tried unmuting the midi channel corresponding to the new vsti channel but that doesn't work. I'm still getting the sync prob. So far, the only thing that seems to work, in both FL and Sonar, is swapping out all midi channels to vsti ones. I'd love an easier solution though. But thanks a million you guys.
