Here's one of my space pics - an ice sculpture of mine on a space photo backdrop (probably also from APOD) which I posted in the Art Thread a while ago. I always thought it would make a nice CD cover.

Here's a quick one done in the last 20 mins at work. I think the title could use some tweaking - maybe different size letters, hmmmmm. The "R" looks out of place now that I look at it.
I was going for depth becuase your music is very atmospheric.

I was hoping to get some more of my designs done today but got bogged down in some other work project. I also am having some problems understanding how to do layers in Photoshop (the key to exciting images) So if anyone has some tips to help me get started I would appreciate the help.

Very nice patrick, the 3d quality is really good. You did a good job on the ice sculpture as well, very alien like. Interesting montage. Here's one of my space pics - an ice sculpture of mine on a space photo backdrop (probably also from APOD) which I posted in the Art Thread a while ago. Another nice one from you Armoor, this one definately has more conection to my music. The fonts for the title are not bad except as you say the R. it doesn't look as if it belongs in the same style. I like the floating particles in the forground, kind of like an exploded ship has been discovered. Nice one again. Here's a quick one done in the last 20 mins at work. I highly recommend any of you guys who want professional looking CD cover art to actually work with real artists who specializes in such things. There are plenty of them who will do it for free just for the exposure. I would recommend you visit forums like cgtalk.com, eatpoo.com, forums.sijun.com, conceptart.org...etc and see if you hook up with one of the talented artists in those places. Many of them are musicians too, or are music lovers, so I'm sure you'll find someone who will be happy to work on something for you.

Sounds like a good idea although I really want to do this myself it couldn't hurt to get some tips and tricks from professionals. I have spent many years working on sculpture that I never focussed on the computer art side of things. Photoshop can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite fun, and VERY addictive.
If I was you, I'd learn a bit more about Photoshop, and do the cover yourself. It's far more personal that way, and there's a certain level of satisfaction that you just can't get by hiring someone out.

Yes these are my feelings too, I want to be able to use my creative skills in whatever way I can. I want the satisfaction that I did it myself. I have had the program for quite awhile (as well as some other graphics programs) but never had the time to invest in learning. I am unemployed now and with an occassional framing, installing and crating of artwork jobs that come along, I have all the time in the world to learn.Photoshop can be a bit tricky at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's quite fun, and VERY addictive.

I sort of lucked out. Years ago, I had a full copy of Photoshop 4.0 that came FREE with a scanner. As that program became feeble in comparison to even Photoshop Elements, I just started using the copy of Elements that came FREE with a second scanner I bought. I switched back and forth between Elements and The Gimp, until last Christmas I got a upgrade from archaic old 4.0 to brand spanking new CS!

You are lucky. Getting it for Christmas is a nice treat.
I had Photoshop LE back maybe 3 years ago and finally had enough money to upgrade to 5. I was able to afford the upgrades ever since and had plans to do that to CS but got laid off my job 2 months ago, will have to wait till I can land a new one before I will shell out for CS.

Soniccat: Here's an idea I had. I know you want to do it yourself so this is the last post from me - as far as designs are concerned.

And for your photoshop lesson, here's the layer structure (I'm using Photoshop CS so yours might be different):

Next time you're at the bookstore check out ComputerArts Magazine. They usually have a bazillion photoshop tutorials. Also I forgot to mention,
http://www.3dbuzz.com
has some free photoshop tutes in the download area.
