I must be the only person on the planet who thinks that Grado's are the some of the best looking headphones around. Very simple classy design, IMO. Especialy once you move up in the line and get the chrome grilles.
It's like wearing a car on your head! Wait, that sounded wrong...

Some Sub-$70 headphones that don't totaly suck:
Grado SR-60
Beyerdynamic DT 231
Koss PortaPro
AKG K 55
ATH-M40
Sennheiser HD 212 Pro
Sennheiser PX100
Sennheiser HD 457
Sennheiser HD 202

Don't get the Koss UR15's - they're terrible & overpriced here in NZ - you have to press them to your head to get any bass (could be my freak head though I suppose) & they just sound harsh to my ears. They cost me $80NZ (about $50US I think), I should have tested them first but they were plastic sealed & there were no demo's at the retailer!
I won't make that mistake again though!

Got some Sony MDR-V200's for $70NZ that, while not amazing, wiped the floor with the Koss', but now they're broken - not a manufacturer fault, I think I just trash gear!

Hope this helps? :)

I agree, UR15 is not worth it.
For that same $50 (around 35, if you shop around) you could get their MUCH better PortaPro.

You're saying that your 9euro HP200's sound better than a pair of Sennheiser HD 515's or Alessandro MS-1's???

Ive got some Goodmans ones, they actualy came free with my mountain bike last year (no idea why) but they are very good considering. Not big ones, they kinda wrap round ya lugs, but good enouh. I use them on my MP3 player and for occasional PC work.

Did they break at the hinge? I have the MDR-V700's and both hinges are cracking.

Sorry to hijack the thread even further, but that radio is just cool as hell!

I'd recommend people who do VST GUI graphics to take a look at that site, it's a treasure trove of old-school designs.

Wow!

Those pictures were cool! (I added that web page to my favourites - now I can use the pics for contact pages on web sites!)

And oh - to "un-hijack" the thread - I use the PortaPro headphones from Koss. They're great sounding but they are not capsuled. This is what I like best during long sessions, but for critical (short term) listening, I'd prefer capsuled headphones.
