I know these threads tend to beat a herd of dead horses, but I agree with the prevailing opinion that FL can produce just about anything, depending on the gifts of the musician.

I don't use any bundled vst's either. There are a wealth of amazing instruments and effects, both free and commercial, available to generate whatever sound you're looking for- and "color" the sound any way you choose. Whatever host helps you place the notes and manipulate them most intuitively (for you) is the one you should use.

I've used Cubase, Live 4, Tracktion, and FL (since 2.0) and FL5 is the host I prefer.

....doesnt 'lupus' mean 'wolf' or something....?

Chase, being a junglist yourself, ever heard of Concord Dawn? On numerous occasions they have responded on DOA that they use Fruity and some plugins to both produce and even master some of their tracks, amongst which is their huge dancefloor hit "Morning Light" (vocals recorded with SB Live!, btw).

Post

Yes I know of concord dawn. They are highly over-rated. I don't consider their music top notch, except for the remix they did on Dieselboy's label which wasn't done in fruityloops.

They do good ambient and orchestral work, but they tend to put out cheese and thier beats are either looped or crappily programmed. The bass in Morning Light is sampled, and the sub bass in Take me away is out of tune. Other than that I don't like any of their other tunes (except for the first half Gaurdian angel, but the beat in it bothers me).

props to dunk for the video....i was just gonna say 9th wonder....he works completely in fl and does vocals in cool edit pro....he hasn't even upgraded to audition....he did an interview in a magazine basically saying how everyone in the industry laughs at him when he walks into the big pro studios with his laptop and fl.....he says he aint gonna change....he can make fruity sound dirty or clean...whateva....thats part of the beauty and curse of fruity....it made pro production available to the masses and leveled the playing field....do you consider the MPC,asr-10, TRITON, OR MOTIF PRO?....cause the neptunes, kanye, swiss beats, and virtually every other follower hip hop producer uses an mpc in combo with one of those keyboards exsclusively....and they are all over the radio...when interviewed they cant even explain why....its pretty much become like the thing to do....like calling a 1800 number for a hip hop starter kit....they jus get mad at people like 9th wonder cause those gears are 2-4 grand a pop while FL cost 150 bucks.

and dont forget people like pete rock made a lot of intricate classics on the sp 1200....would u consider that pro?

Shit, no-one told me! :-o
Right, well... I rest my case.

I disagree on that one. With the right programming skills and guitar plug-ins, FL is highly capable of making convincingly real-sounding music.

Sorry, mate.. I guess when I made that comment I was speaking about real instruments, not convincingly real instuments. Sure you can do that with Fruity, but if I've got a 5 piece band all mic'd up and ready to go, I'm not going to open Fruity for that session. You could, I suppose, but why? It's much easier to do in a multi-track app.

Post

So I guess with fruity's multitrack-recording-abilities fruity falls out of that category? :P
I'm a Jugga Nut!

I even heard great music made with trackers like Buzz. The best software is the one that suits you best, end of story. For example, some people swear by Reason, I for one want to torch it. Why? Because thats how I am heheh

i guess the original question could be "is there any music that i like produced with FL?"

concord dawn may not be your cup of tea, and i don't care much for it either but it is clearly professional music. it's popular, "successful" and so forth. likewise, there is a whole load of music around which sounds very polished and is made with exceedingly expensive software and equipment which is total arse.

hmm, what was i saying? who knows. i think it's a bit of a worthless question. use what works.

I say you go ahead and use all yer workflow killing obtuse, and uninspiring hosts, because even if I never become a famous musician, I will still enjoy making it and sound just as good as the "pro" carp out there...
