Just thought I'd share with fellow electronic music lovers. It's always good to take a look back at your roots.
I have this video tape of YMO's 1993 reunion concert, and it's really something. They had all grown so much as musicians, especially Sakamoto. He was playing these complex polychords, but they were actually the main melody of the old YMO songs. He also did a lot of improvisation, and you can tell it was completely spontaneous, because during one track, he started playing the melody of another well-known track of theirs straight into it--and the cameraman captured the look on Takahashi and Hosono's surprised and grinning faces. They were like, "Holy Shit I can't believe you just improved that!"
BTW, does any of you understand how websites like yousendit can operate and generate revenue? I didn't see any ads, so they're not operating off of ads.

hehe yep, ryuichi sakamoto is seriously one of the best eclectic composers out there at the moment. he just has this sort of "zen" vibe going on... it's hard to explain but by listening to his stuff you might get the idea. never seems to be playing "too much" but what little is going on is absolutely amazing.
oh which reminds me - if anyone happens to have a videotape / mpeg / divx / whatever copy of a BBC project called "one world one voice" where they traveled round the world recording one huge song, PLEASE pm me if you're willing to share. our high school's music technology teacher showed it to us several years ago... been looking a copy for a while now and it seems really hard to find. there's actually two parts of the program - the document and the "music video", both of which are really interesting... and the song features quite a cast of musicians, sakamoto being one of them.
