arrg, i hate this pre-release hypes!!! i fiddled around with the demo a while, finding out that audioediting is fu.. sh.. you cant even cut away the beginning of a groove loop. here's the procedure. you record something, maby a guitarlick that doesn't start at the first beat, it maybe starts 8th before. so i record a whole bar earlier and then i have to cut away what i don't want in the arrangeview, transform it to a grooveloop, and no chance to set a musical one. and the slices arent for tempo correction like in live 4, they are just the granularpoints, so you can't correct easily a hit that's out of time.. and no offsetsnap of clips, even clips with an offbeat are snapping to the raster.

are there still people living out there who are recording real musicians ? live (no PDC...), tracktion (no offsetsnap...), project5(no offsetsnap...).... so many good programs missing all just 2-5 very little features that makes working with them for realworld recordings sooo bad. disapointed once more.

Flipper.
If you are using asio drivers goto Options/AUDIO/ Under Playback Bit Depth you will see the Justify option swith between the 2 options 32-LSB and 32-MSB and see which one works best.

This supports linked clips!!! I've wanted that in Live forever.

It's a bummer that you can't record directly into the Groove Matrix but this is looking great so far.

The demo songs, compared to Reason and Live, are very weak.

It's the first people want to do, load a song and play around.

But the MP3 demos sound ok, especially the Dimension song with the nice strings.

can anyone confirm what Aldi is saying regarding the audio editing, i'm having a difficult time understanding the post. Are you saying that project 5 actualy won't let you 'edit audio' and that it doesn't have an 'audio syncing feature'? ...I assumed it would have audio syncing like sonar or at least better...i'm very confused.

I dunno about audio editing, but the first thing I want to do when trying out a new host is to make a simple MIDI sequence in the piano roll. First, creating a note and dragging paints notes, instead of adjusting the length. Then, when I try to move the note, the tool sometimes changes to velocity edit mode. To get a four bar pattern, I have to set the "pattern length" to 5:1:0 (bars:beats:ticks).

The UI is overall much nicer and more usable than in version 1.x, but I still hate the piano roll.

From the manual it sounds like this is supposed to happen if you click in the middle of the note. It's intended to be a quick velocity edit shortcut.

Looks like you can't edit the lengths of several notes at a time. :(

First impressions are that this is more of a composition tool than a performance tool like Live, but it seems to combine a lot of the best features of something like Cubase or Sonar with the simplicity and immediacy of Live.

Guess I'll have to wait until the real thing shows up to hear the new Dimension synth.

what about the audio editing?

Post

I can't get asio to work. Only DirectSound produces sound, ASIO and WDM have no sound at all but the volume levels are moving. Can anyone help?

Try flipping the 32-LSB to 32-MSB in the audio settings - worked for me.

What kind of editing do you mean? Other than splitting and joining there doesn't seem to be much audio editing per-se.

I'm finding the lack of support for recording directly into the Groove Matrix to be a major drag. The amount of fiddling it takes to record a new clip and get it into the GM completely kills the flow I depend on in Live. Also, just changing presets seems to gap the "gapless" audio engine. Not liking the piano roll much so far either.

This initially looked like a pretty serious threat to Live but after playing with it for a few hours it's hard for me to see it that way. It seems like it would appeal more to the Reason/Fruity crowd. My overall first impression is that there are a lot of nice ideas here but it still hasn't quite come together yet.

I'll be getting the full version in the mail soon hopefully. Maybe after spending some more time with it my opinions will change.

the trailer is not as good as the reason 3 trailer. whoever wrote the music for R3 did a good job. this one sounds kind of okay. :?
be part of the solution, not the problem

One thing I don't like is that you have to open the track inspector to access the insert fx. It also seems to require a vst adapter which I can't stand...too much hassle to install and manage vst stuff.
