Haven't tried the demo, and it's quite pricey, but from the demo MP3s I'm very impressed with the sound of this, so much more so than the ArtsAcoustic demos I heard. Now mind you I'm at work listening through headphones, but this sounds almost like a good Lexicon to me, very clear, seems to mix extremely well, handles percussive instruments well, etc. Too bad I'm not going to get a chance to play with this until the weekend at soonest...So anyone actually demo this thing on on their own systems yet? Thoughts.
I'm sorry this post wasn't about techno.

had a few minutes to play with it at work here... i haven't used any of the add-in card based reverbs but this reverb is really, really nice. i'm very impressed. did someone say "group buy"?

Post

Yeah if this sounds as good at home as I thought those demos did, I think we are going to have to convince these developers to create a group buy on this one.

Well well ...

The timing is perfect. I was about to buy a PCM91, but now I can get VSS3 for Powercore, CSR, ArtsAcoustic, and R66 ... for less than a single PCM91 stereo channel.

Oh the magic and wonder of it all. :D

Lots of reverbs coming out at the moment but this does stand out. I wonder how much it's based on the excellent Reaktor reverbs Martijn Zwartjes has made?

On the plus side using the VST is way more bang for the buck when you can use them acrossed so many tracks at the same time.

On the minus side they still won't sound as good as the 91.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

Wow - you have to sign up for the demo but it's worth it. Registration is by serial and it's a single tiny dll - no installer :) There is an "annoying tone" (as they put it) every now and then but it's amazing. Does sound like a smoother and clearer version of Reaktor's excellent SpaceMaster (and it's predecessor 6-Rev) - both of which I use as my main reverbs anyway. I don't know what a hardware verb sounds like so I can't compare but I like reverbs that either just place the sound in space but don't intrude on it - or create really whacked out experimental spaces - and this does both. One of the best things is the CPU hit - it doesn't have one. Even the lushest presets make barely 2-3 percent on my PC (3.6.P4).

funny user quote from their website...

"When I heard the R66 for the first time, it took me less than a minute to decide that I could easily sell my 480 and my other hardware reverbs. It took me three weeks to accept this fact and then I really sold the 480 for good bucks.”

of course :-)

Iv just been checking out the demo's on their web site myself and they sound great, on headphones! Havnt got the chance to try the actual software yet :(
Its damned expensive but if the sounds upto scratch I dont mind shelling out as I have been thinking of getting a powercore simply for the verbs that that card can handle.

Id really be interested in hearing from people who have good hardware reverb units and or the Powercore 'classicverb' to see how this thing compares to them.

BTW This is my first post so hello to everyone :)

Isn't the user quote such an abused cliche. :hihi:

I already sold my 480 and all other hardware before hearing the 66 at all, just by reading the quote... :hihi:

You know what I hate? When people reference a program but don't link to it. Anyone have a link?

Ahhh thanks!

Ummmm ... not to be picky or anything but the name "R66" has been for a reverb ensemble within Reaktor, and earlier, with in SynC Modular, for several years .... is there a relationship?
