is there any vst gate effect, that includes an adsr enveloppe that controls the triggering ?

I'd be really glad if anyone could point me to something that can do this :P

cheers

NDC has one that gates on midi note on.

the triggering of the adsr is actually a shady part in my request, since i don't have a particular idea about how it should be triggered.
But the midi seems interesting i'll check it thanks shaaman.
I think that it'd be great to have also a regular gate thats triggers on thresold but with the adsr going ; maybe i should check some synths like absynth that have an fx capabilitie ???

I have a vague recollection of making something like that in Synthedit once.

Works out to make a pulse effect, where the ADSR pumps through each full cycle before retriggering.

I have a working version of a gate with ADSR in synthedit right now! Still needs a few touch ups, and testing, but it does work. I'll try to get it out as a VST sometime soon :)

edit: just found out it does not hold itself open with continuous level above threshold :(

It does work if it gets through it's whole ADSR cycle tho'

Having an attack & release on a gate makes perfect sense to me. Sustain also (lower it, but don't kill it totally) but would someone care to explain what use a decay control could have?

Have a an envelope on a gate means that your can have more control over the envelope of the sound. The attack and decay sections can add more 'punch' to the sound. Rather than simply being an on-off switch.

Some of the DBX hardware gates have a 'peak punch' that boosts the level immediatly after the gate opens to add 'punch'. This could be emulated with the attack and decay of an envelope.

I think an exponential envelope response would get you better results for punch. Like in a drum synth.

somehow I missed this one! It seems that whenever I'm looking for a specific, esoteric plug- somewhere on NDC it already exists :)

Thanx for all these tips !

(I just felt I had to thanx somebody as I found the info interresting)

Digitalfishphones' Dominion doesn't have a decay control, but you will find the others. Maybe it's not as extreme as what you'd like to see in a true "gate" effect though.
Logic's enveloper actually has got all the parameters (yet, it could be more extreme).
But of course, none of the two would respond to MIDI notes.

I have finished my Envelope gate in synthedit, and if i wasn't having trouble with my FTP i'd post it on my website. hopefully will be all sorted out soon. If anyone is desparate for it i can email to you.

Instead of being merely an ADSR envelope, it is a multistage envelope with an additional time and level control. The rate of change in each stage can be expotentail, logrithmic, linear, or and s-curve.

When tested it i had agood result on kick drum with a short attack opening to a moderate level and then by increasing the level in the next stage to maximum. this meant that as the natural decay of the kick start to occur the envelope was actualyl increasing the level, and so made the drum sound fuller. then the gate would close like normal.

Microgater
http://klanglabs.siliconemusic.com/
good - inverse mode; velocity depth
bad - only one note trigger; in cubase/nuendo midi #cc not works (very bad); only linear mode.

NDC Midi Adsr
http://www.niallmoody.com/ndcplugs/midi-adsr.htm
good - midi automation controlled
bad - inverse mode none; msec params all time unstable...for hard quntaize not suitable

Advanced MIDI Gate
http://www.oli.adbe.org/
good - midi automation controlled
bad - inverse mode none; hold none; much unnecessary features (filter, lfo..etc)

DFX MIDI Gater
http://dfx.spacebar.org/
good - velocity depth;
bad - inverse mode none; adsr none (midi #cc as well)

decision on a matter for current time -
microgater loaded in other VST hosts (Chainer, energyXT, Console for midi CC) - CU/NU transformer for all keys.

Ideal none.
All others plugins aproximately with same features.

In ideal, simple dll something like Microgater -
with all note trigger or one key,
with midi CC,
fast envelope with adsr speed as NDC Midi Adsr.

and daydreaming :) - custom envelope like sytrus, fm7, absynth..
There is such programmer?
