yeah, I mean how cool can layers really get. But they work, and all this stuff is good improvement on v1. Hopefully the freeze works well. While I really love Live for jamming/mixing in the session view, P5-2 is nice for making tracks. I want to check out the freeze and dimension before final judgements obviously.
I've also noticed that the audio playback is better than v1. Have you seen a difference? I can push the cpu hit higher than before without glitches.

That's true I think. If a guy has Sonar and Live, why would you want more hosts?WillieJenkins wrote:After playing with the demo (not enough mind you), Its not going to replace live for me.
If I didn't need to have the full power of Sonar, and didn't need the actual live-playing ability of Live, I'd scrap them both and use P5. It sits right on that fence, fast enough to keep musical ideas happening, and has lots of nice traditional DAW features to enable you to build complex projects.
If someone was going to get into computer music now (synth based), I'm getting a very clear picture that I'd send them towards P5. The fact is that I quite liked v1, and v2 seems great for useability, power and features.
Okay, enough of playing with the demo and kvr, I got to get some stuff done. have fun

according to a post on the P5 forum the way to trim an audio clip's begining/end/whatever is take it out of Groove Clip mode, edit, slip and then re-enable the Groove Clip mode
I'll have to try it but seems simple enough

that's what i meant
but that's a pain in the... to do because you had to cut the audioclip in the arrangeview and there you can't zoom the y-view. and then, when you have to cut the clip just a littlebit before or after a beat, you can't move it anymore because it will snap to the beat. if you have two parts on different tracks that must stay in sync, there's no easy way. so working with real recordings (not patterns) isn't fast enough.

Hmm.. I'm pretty sure that you can y-zoom the arrange view by dragging the arrange view scrollbar Left/Right.aldi wrote:that's what i meantbut that's a pain in the... to do because you had to cut the audioclip in the arrangeview and there you can't zoom the y-view. and then, when you have to cut the clip just a littlebit before or after a beat, you can't move it anymore because it will snap to the beat. if you have two parts on different tracks that must stay in sync, there's no easy way. so working with real recordings (not patterns) isn't fast enough.

yup, correct! - and tbh I still don't have a clue about what Aldi's problem is...pseudonoise wrote: Hmm.. I'm pretty sure that you can y-zoom the arrange view by dragging the arrange view scrollbar Left/Right.

Aldi has the same problem as me, namely its a huge pain to manipulate the start points of loops, and basically for some reason you cant do it in the Pseq view for audio, you have to do some long winded process which is hardly intuitive if your messing about with the groove matrix and have to keep on dragging and selecting.
Its the same with editing midi, you cant change the start point of a cell, you have to chop it, make a new pattern, then drag to another cell or override the existing cell.
Its hardly Ableton Live, however very much it trys.
Well i've ordered it a bit hastily, but at least i'll get the Dimension synth, even though i'm not so impressed with certain editing features.

and the CLIPSTART are allways snapping to the chosen snapsize. what do you do, when you have a clip that has an offbeat before the one ?! you can't move it exactly 1 measure... (uff, my english must be soo bad
sorry).

Well, I have to admit that I also jumped the gun on this one. It should be at my door next week. I am terribly dissapointed at the audio portion. It is not intuitive at all. We all here expect things to happen in a DAW, yet they just don't happen in p5V2. For some reaon I was thinking Live5, yet it's limitations now have me a bit bummed. Has anyone noticed the sluggish GUI? Like drawing envelopes, et cetra. My machine is quite clean and I am sure it is not me. The good thing is that these can be addressed in an update. Maybe the 'demo' is another way of a public beta. Score one for good marketing.

HI
Blimey these don't sound like major problems, I jumped the gun on buying Live4 - I ASSUMED the midi side of things would be 'just fine' - wow, was I wrong - IMO midi editing/view in Live4 is not for the faint hearted, and I have high cholesteral!
So yes, hopefully if people can address the areas that need improving hopefully a quick up-date can rectify them.

now I get what you mean: there's no relative snapping but only absolute snapping... - yeah, that's abit of a bummer - but I bet they will implement it with an update if enough people are asking for it...aldi wrote:and the CLIPSTART are allways snapping to the chosen snapsize. what do you do, when you have a clip that has an offbeat before the one ?! you can't move it exactly 1 measure... But here are two solutions:
1.: simply change the snapping factor
2.: (that's how I tend to do it because it sometimes makes arranging much easier even if there's relative snapping) put the off-beat at the end of the clip!
