I've been looking at buying Audition, but looking at their site the download version is more expensive then the mailed/boxed version - what gives?
I've already emailed their support but just wondered whether anyone here had any idea why that should be...

They can't undercut their retail distributers. Anything in a physical box will see a increase in price when offered directly by the company that makes the software.

I understand that, but surely a download/non -physical product should be cheaper - I don't get it...

My brother got it for free because it came with his soundcard (i forget which) and he just bought it for games so he gave it to me. Your best bet on a deal would probably be buying a soundcard that comes with it and then selling the soundcard?

So, are you saying that Audition 1.5 full version is distributed with some sound cards?

Might as well be using warez, oem software license is tied to the hardware they came with, you sell the hardware, you sell the software with it.

It's an interesting point.

My advice to you though is simply, get the boxed version...

...the manual is excellent (and believe me, you don't want to consult the PDF every 5 minutes!), and the sample CD that comes in the boxed version is very useable.

I don't think you will regret getting AA either - it really is a fabulous piece of music software.

When I say sell it, I don't mean like in box over ebay or anything. I mean just to a friend or something and not include the disc that has the bonus music production software on it. Would that be piracy as well?

Piracy is a strong word (too strong) and I'm not judge and jury, but I don't think you would be respecting the oem contract by doing so.

Thanks for the advice - I'm gonna get the boxed version - though I still can't understand why it's cheaper than the download :?
