I started out using Kontakt as my sampler/player of choice about 2 years ago. Now I'm using HALion 3 and am selling my new in the box Gigastudio 3 since HALion seems to be working well with all the different formats.

So... who's using what and why? What about Kontakt 2? Is there an upgrade from Kontakt 1 to Kontakt 2?

And what about the contents in Kontakt 2 vs. HALion 3 and GigaStudio 3 Orchestra?

Any comments would be most appreciated!

The Kontakt 2 libraries are better imo than the Halion 3 libraries.

K2 libraries are a mix from VSL, zero-g (inc morphology), esoundz (acoustic guitars with snap, and a great Les Paul!) and a host of respected names inc NI themselves.

Halion 3 doesn't have K2's time and pitch stretch options, but since I've only just got K2 I can't yet say how good these really are in practice.

But on the strength of the libraries, K2 gives you twice as many gigs for your money.

btw Have you heard how good VSL sounds yet?

If you're interested in orchestral sounds then K2 is very worth a look.
