I've been working on my sample cd project for a long time now (2 years) & so far I only have a couple of drum loops done. The working process is very slow & it's harder than expected, so I'd like to know your opinions about the sounds I've created so far. Keep in mind that I created these sounds from scratch using only my own original recordings & drum synths patches. No sample from records, other sample cds, website or drum machine have been use:

89 views & no reply? I mean, does the samples are really that bad? :?:

Please someone comment! :hail: :hail: :hail:

I checked them out. Not bad, pretty simple stuff. I'd shy away from using FX like reverb on the loops tho.

These drum loops are preaty good, but they are nothing to WoW about.
In order to succeed in the Sample CDs world you need to shine out!
Find yourself a special niche!
My suggestion is, make something very special, or very cheap, or go on and make a really *BIG* collection and charge exaggerated price for it ;)

Thanks for the comments, truly appreciated! So...

- less reverb
- more original/different loops

Personnaly I think the reverb is ok on most of the loop except for the athdrumloop.wav since real drummers plays in rooms, stadiums, auditoriums, etc... natural reverb is there. My idea being to create new "breakbeat" type of loop so breakbeat/drum & bass artist could use something a little bit different.

Cheers

psycho drum beat is cool! great sound. The rest of the beats are kinda basic, stuff that would be easier for me to create than to use a loop for. I agree with the less reverb comments and more original/unique rythms, but i think the drum sounds are nice.

By original do you mean more complex rhythms or just plain weird/differents percussions loops?

Post

mmm, I would say more interesting ,doesn't have to be complex but not so generic. I can barely play drums and program so I don't know how valid what I have to say is but The beats just don't feel that groovy or stand out to me.

hmmm reverb no keep it clean, let the user decide what setting the drummer is in ;)

As others allready said, it'd be best to keep those loops as dry as possible. People may want to either slice them or have them fit into a mix. In bot cases reverb is getting in the way.

Apart from that, you need to supply something special along with them.
Could be some things:
- Recycled loops or some that would feed a recycle-alike machine properly (Intakt, Phatmatik, etc).
- Generic sample sets (SF2) of such recycled loops along with appropriate MIDI files to trigger them.
- Individual shots of some used samples.
- Less "complete" loops. I remember a sample CD called "No Kick" which I found to be particularly useful back then. All the loops were supplied without kicks, which was great because the kick is such a vital element and might not fit with your bass, so you better do your own.
- Individual tracks of the elements used in a loop, such as "loop01_kick.wav", "loop01_snare.wav" and so on. Great for mixing, great for editing. Great for combining loops too.

If you don't offer any such things, chances are that your library will become just another one - and as we all know, there's tons of those allready.
There are 3 kinds of people:
Those who can do maths and those who can't.
