Maybe you're just beneath his radar..

Or he's just not interested in communicating with anyone right now. I would find that consistent with his departure.

yes but i think he'd at least be curious enough to read it and if he reads it the pm goes from my outbox to my sentbox.

I delete PM's without reading them all the time. I would imagine that a developer fed up with his users would not care much to answer much less read anything unless it's from an established aquaintance.
