Help me get FL to work.

I have been facing very serious stability issues while using FL studio 5.0.2. I will try and explain them in detail here. Hopefully u guyz can point me towards a solution.

My main host is Tracktion. I have FL running (usually in rewire mode)

Issues :

1) System freezes.

Occurs while trying to audiotioning samples in the browser (can also occur while tweaking any knob, but this does not happen often)

the moment i start to drag a sample from the FL browser into te step seq, there is a strong chance the system will freeze. This happens very often.

Sometimes while I have sampler open (in the step seq) and i clik on the waveform there, the system freezes before start of play.


2) Crash during midi record.

About eight midi channels in tracktion with SFZ loaded with the Titanic soundfont (ready midi sequence imported from a workstation). Recording the 9th midi sequence to a track where FL rewire is inserted. Output of this track going to a channel in FL.

I was very often facing a situation where the GUI would suddenly freeze (even though the audio continues playing), I might or might not get an acces violation error. This freeze would lead to Tracktion and FL either doing a spoof (suddenly dissapearing) or me having to go to the Task manager and forcing T to quit. The task manager would show T as not responding.

The crash here would be followed by a loud constant buzz from the soundcard. A system reboot would be needed.


3) Access violation messages.

I have been getting these messages mostly while performing a midi record with the output of the track going to FL. But now im also getting these during playbak of T with FL

an example message :

Access Violation at address 0F9C1D29 in module "Fl Engine_RW.dll" write of address 00000000

The address and write of address vary.

I can at times clcik on OK and continue working (usually followed by a freeze soon after) but mostly my system freezes when this message appears. Once i got like lots of them coming suddenly and the system freezing.

On it's own Tracktion works very stable.

On it's own FL still freezes the system while trying to audition.

I have a dual boot system. With the first partition being dedicated towards audio work. The second patition has the trash and is not optimized. I have my audio applicaitons installed on both partitions.

FL has alwaz been freezing partition 2 while trying to audition samples. Although it usually ran a lot stabler with partition 1 yesterday it froze that partition all the time too.

Kingston 512MB Value ram

Audiotrak Maya 44MkII audiocard
Creative SB live. For the midi interface.

Nvida Dual head 32MB graphincs card

Samsung 20GB for OS and applications (Dual Boot)
Maxtor 60 GB 7200 for Archives and samples
WD 80GB 7200 2mb cache for Audio

I do not have any of those symptoms and I use 5.02. I would check my RAM, make sure my chipset drivers are up to snuff. do a full scan of my hard drives and defrag them. I woudl hen uninstall and reinstall FL studio if the other things dont work.

I have already reinstyalled FL. My drivers are all uptodate. I have my drives defragged. Will try and get a replacement ram to check.

I just did a few tests out of a hunch.. very intreasting results..

I launched FL standalone. And picked up samples from the FL browser by the dozen and started dumping them into the step seq. Very fast, auditioning, dumpin, tweaking... everything... nothin.. all worked soomth. Shut down FL.


then I launched Tracktion. opened FL in rewire. The first sample I try to drag from the FL browser to the step seq. freezes the system....

I do this ince again to doublechek and try some other variations.
