Anybody sampled a Dannon Yogurt lid (the clear plastic one)?

Here in the US, Dannon yogurt containers come with a throwaway clear plastic lid (why the also included foil cover is not sufficient, I don't know - I guess cause we like to throw things away here in the USA) that sounds remarkably like a dumbek (sp?) when you tap on it with a pencil.
You can even tune it a little by squeezing on the colored plastic ring around the lid while tapping the clear plastic 'drum head'.

Here in Europe its called "Danone", and alas it does not have an extra lid. For that you'd have to get the yoghurt with muesli in the lid (to keep it from getting soaky

Another thing you can do with yoghurt containers:

In the US, on a 6 oz (170 g) containers, there is a clear plastic lid that covers the pull-off foil lid. I suppose it is for saving a portion of the yogurt if it is not consumed all at one time. The clear plastic 'drum head' of the lid is supported by a colored plastic ring that snaps onto the yogurt container.Zacchino wrote:Which Danone Yogourt you're talking about ? And which sound precisely ?
here is a picture where you can see the edge of the lid, but you would need to see the top of the lid to see that it's clear plastic
If you tap on the clear plastic, while holding the lid by the ring (make a shape of a large letter C with your hand, supporting the lid with the thumb and middle finger), it sounds remarkably like a dumbek - although at much lower volume. Putting various amounts of pressure on the ring by squeezing the middle finger and thumb together, seems to change the tension on the 'drum head' and changes the pitch significantly.
I will just have to do this at home. I eat this yogurt at work and always forget to take one of the lids home. I've now got one in my coat pocket so I should have some samples up at the audioshots auditorium over the weekend.

OK,
Without further delay, I present a sample of the US-spec Dannon 6 oz. Yogurt lid in all it's glory.
Enjoy using it. It's sure to become the latest in your egyptian/african percussion arsenal, I'm sure.
It's found over at Audioshots Auditorium. Go right to the thread Here

I would like to jam a full yogurt container against my guitar at full volume with a mild amount of overdrive and sample that.

Please do. It would work well for those dark ambient dudes that hand out on KVR, kind of like the brain splat sounds that one needs when working on a horror flick, not that I've ever done that.lunarhalo wrote:I would like to jam a full yogurt container against my guitar at full volume with a mild amount of overdrive and sample that.

Not sure what kind of sound this would make. A kind of distorted splosh with the electronics on the guitar shorting out would be cool. Multiple room mics and direct signal monitoring/mixing would probably be best to capture the event. Sticking the guitar in the freezer and a time lapse audio recording of the yogurt freezing to the instrument might make a good after touch (and a good hot Summer icy snack!).rockstar_not wrote:Please do.
